The isle of Capri – Italy
Limone Harbour The picturesque village of Limone lies at the foot of the mountains on the north-west shore of Lake Garda, Italy. Until Mussolini built the road around the lake, the only way to visit the village was by boat or remote mountain track. Today it is a popular tourist resort with many hotels, shops & cafes. Foss Waterway ~ Tacoma, Washington. Everything was shipshape on the Gloria of Columbia. I stood in line for hours just to walk aboard her. The small East Coast town of Pittenweem, Fife, Scotland seen from the end of the breakwater adjacent to the small harbour on a very overcast March day. Pittenweem is now the most active of the fishing ports in the East Neuk coast of Fife. Fishing boats jostle for position in its busy harbour and this is a lively vibrant place at any time of day. To add to the atmosphere, visitors can watch the fish market conducted in the sheds on the harbour from 8.00am each morning. This village is the only one in the East Neuk, still with a working harbour. Although there are fewer boats sailing from here now than in days gone by, it is a unique opportunity to see the daily landings and early morning market. Pittenweem fresh fish is bought here and sold by the many local fish vans who travel all over Scotland selling the fish. BEST VIEWED LARGER Related shots can be found at: Lowland Scotland.

My first upload since my recent illness and not a new image but a place and subject I so enjoy. / A view of the harbour and outer wall in Polperro, Cornwall, how I am looking forward to going back there as soon as my health allows. / I can’t thank you all enough for the many kind messages and support during my recovery from the heart attack I suffered in August, it has been of great help and I am pleased to say, things are slowly improving and I am feeling much better but still quite a way to get back to my old fitness. I think I like this one more purely because it’s not quite so thin. However, I don’t like the subject matter so much. It’s boats in the harbour at Lyme Regis, in Dorset, England. Taken at dusk, one of my favourite times of day for photography Taken with a Pentax K20D 28-55mm lens

Please View Large Wikipedia © The first recorded mention of Mevagissey dates from 1313 (when it was known as Porthhilly), although there is evidence of settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. Towards the end of the 17th Century, Porthhilly merged with the hamlet of Lamoreck to make the new village. It was named after two Irish saints, St Meva and St Issey (the “g” comes from hag, the Cornish word for “and”). At this time the main sources of income for the village were pilchard fishing and smuggling and the village had at least ten inns, of which two (the Fountain and the Ship) still remain. / Andrew Pears, the founder of Pears’ Soap was born in the village in 1768 and set up a barber shop here until he moved to London in 1789. / Mevagissey had a power station built in 1895, powered by pilchard oil, which provided electricity for the lighthouse and surrounding streets. Local sources claim that it was the first town in the country to have electric street lighting. Featured in – Australia v England – 27th October 2009 Nikon D300 / Sigma 24-70mm Google Maps
