Loretto Chapel Stairs is the 4th painting in a series called “Americana” When the Loretto Chapel was completed in 1878, there was no way to access the choir loft twenty-two feet above. Legend says that to find a solution to the seating problem, the Sisters of the Chapel made a novena to St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters. On the ninth and final day of prayer, a man appeared at the Chapel with a donkey and a toolbox looking for work. Months later, the elegant circular staircase was completed, and the carpenter disappeared without pay or thanks. After searching for the man (an ad even ran in the local newspaper) and finding no trace of him, some concluded that he was St. Joseph himself, having come in answer to the sisters’ prayers. The staircase has two 360 degree turns and no visible means of support. Also, it is said that the staircase was built without nails – only wooden pegs. The construction is still a mystery to experts today. The original painting is 22×30” and painted on 140 lb Arches watercolor paper – available by contacting the artist. Giclee reproductions are available in several sizes.
Created in Painter 10, with some minor color correction and lighting in Photoshop. This was done using mainly the pastel and oil brushes in painter, along with some custom blender brushes. It’s kind of a fantasy painting… I love mills and I love winter :) Thanks for looking!

Princess Park in is a landscape watercolor painting of the fountain in a lovely park in downtown Brandon Manitoba where the Prince Edward Hotel used to be situated. The Prince Eddward Hotel was an old hotel in Brandon, Manitoba, that had significant historical value, but it was so dilapitated that it was beyond restoration. Something needed to be done with it so the city chose to tear it down and rebuild the area into a park. Stones from the original hotel were used to build features in the park such as this fountain. The 18×24” original Watercolor “Princess Park” is painted on 140 lb Arches watercolor paper and is available by contacting the artist, Joy Skinner.

Years ago i took a photo of a run down area of Blyth. This area has since been demolished and recently I had the idea of transforming my photo into my bendy buildings style. I used my six for a pound (£) coloured pencils from WH Smith and my Rotring Isograph pen .. oh, and I tinted parts of the picture with watercolour pencils before starting. FEATURED IN FREEDOM TO SHINE GROUP – 28th December 2009 /
The little town I live in has had a lot of drug-related crime and as such it is appropriate that we should have one of the most handsome police stations in the country. When I was producing views of Blyth for sale I just had to draw the police station … it took me about twelve hours, using Rotring Isograph pens. Please note I drew this seventeen years ago.
