This painting is based on/inspired by the gorgeous image teapot with grapes / / by the lovely and talented Anna D’Accione / Thank you soooo much Anna for allowing me to use your image! This is the first image in a new series I have begun called the “Meditation Series”. Each painting in this new series will explore a different spiritual principle. While painting this image I paid very close attention to my breathing as I tried to let the art “happen” without resisting or trying to push and pull the paint. I surrendered to the process and this is the end result. I hope you enjoy this image and this new series. © AmandaGWright 2009.

“Red Onions” are the newest addition to the “Potting Shed” series “Autumn is a good season for beginning to live gently. It is the time for harvesting the fruits of winter planning, spring planting and summer husbandry. With a good harvest, we can take the first steps to live a more gentle lifestyle or at least to start planning for changes in lifestyle. We can store our harvest, whether of food, knowledge or financial resources, from which to draw as we make the transition from our current lifestyle to one which walks more gently on the landscape. A portion of that harvest can be enjoyed now, in celebration and thanksgiving of the successes of the past. A portion of the harvest should also be saved. Saved for the time until the next harvest. Saved for seeds for next year’s planting. Saved for the future as a safety net against unforseen setbacks. An abundant harvest gives us the resources to easily enter the period of winter planning and spring planting. A time for renewing our commitment to a more gentle life”.Living Gently Quarterly… Watercolour on Arches Not Paper / Shallots / The Family SEE MORE OF THE POTTING SHED COLLECTION HERE “For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together. For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad.” Edwin Way

“Harvest” is part of the Potting Shed Series…. we are approaching winter, and it’s time to bring in the harvest.. 216 Views “Autumn is a good time for taking the first steps toward voluntary simplicity of lifestyle because we are generally entering from a position of strength and high energy which empowers us toward further successes. But what if the harvest had been poor or ended in failure? Such an event in life’s seasons could be a failed venture or the loss of employment. Here, we enter into involuntary simplicity. We are forced through circumstances to live with less. We could wallow in a poor me mentality, blaming others for our plight or we can seize the opportunity to begin on the journey to living gently. This journey may be rockier than that following a good harvest, but the sense of urgency is heightened. The initial path may be more painful, but the full journey is just as rewarding.Living Gently Quartely For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad_”...Edwin Way Teale /
“Harvest 2” is part of the Potting Shed Series.... “Let us use this autumn season to celebrate life and give thanks for our good fortunes. In doing so renew a pledge to the father of the heavens and mother of the earth to take only what you need, leave the rest for others and treat your home land with love and respect so that others yet to come may enjoy the bounty your ancestors left behind. Thank all forms of life, big and small, seen and unseen, for their help in producing a good life”.excerpted from Living Gently Quarterly… Watercolour and Gouache on Taupe St Armand Linen Paper.. It’s been a long time that I wanted to give a go to an academic painting….I wasn’t at ease at all with this sort of painting, as it doesn’t quite correspond to what I feel inside….So I found it more stressful to do than my usual work. / I had to be strict, rigid even with this work, no room for ‘over bubbling vitality’ which is not exactly ….me ! Watercolour (Winsor&Newton) on 140 lb. Arches cold press. Toronto, Ontario, Canada / I painted this for a friend whose daughter is called Kalyna. It is mainly negative painting and shows the kalyna or guelder berry or bush cranberry, as it is known by all three names. It grows wild in North America and Europe and has a very sour taste like the cranberry, and therefore needs the addition of lots of sugar (which is not a bad thing).
