PLEASE VIEW LARGE!!! There is actually a story behind this shot. We all are aware that brides make the rules…lol. They make lists and they delegate lists…and they are NOT willing to hear from hubby….... / “UUUHHHH? Was I supposed to do that today???” Meet Cory and Katherine. Katherine makes lists..and then makes a list of the lists…and Cory recieves a list and does what he needs to to make sure that later that night…Katherine is “in the mood” (WINK) This is the natural order of wedding preparations. And then you see…along comes the bossy photographer that gives a very direct order to “Go Caveman” and toss his new bride over his shoulder like the old days…and carry her off. What does the bride say? “Ohhhh no Cory…don’t even think about it!!” He hesitates..looks at me…I grin and happily inform her that for the next two hours I AM THE BOSS….lolol. Cory lights up like a christmas tree because he now gets to do something she doesn’t want to do and she has no say. With a cheeky grin he hauls her over his shoulder like a sac of potatoes…and while she doesn’t want to laugh…or admit it…SHE LIKES IT…just a little. And here is where the happy accident happens…lo and behold as she flings her hair out of her face and I am busily clicking away…I caught this. The truth is I had no idea till last night that I had this perfect shot. My fave of the bunch…love love love her emotion and gut laugh and DAMN her hair is rockin. HOW YA LOVE ME NOW KATIE?? Big fat kiss to you both and thanks so much for letting me play!!!!!!!!!!!! I love to play!!!!!!!!
A belated description. / This is an ode to unhealthy relationships. Not the ones where you have an argument every once in a while, or maybe lots of little ones all over the place, but otherwise everything is peachy keen. This is to the other kind, even or uneven, where one or the other has to protect themselves, in all kinds of ways. Do they stay and learn how to take it, or protect themselves better? Or do they lose everything except their freedom and fly away? I have placed the ‘fight’ bride in a small area that is cramped and hard to breathe, holding her dress and hair up as a barrier. Whereas our ‘flight’ bride has lots of space to move, is making herself free of the confines of the dress, taking down the barrier. Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett, two legends who both died on June 25, 2009, will each have its own Vanity Fair cover in September. An editor of the magazine said, “Two covers seemed like the sensible thing to do, given the passing of two major American icons on the same day.” The Jackson cover has a 1989 Annie Leibovitz photograph of the pop star, and Fawcett’s photo was done by Julian Wasser in 1976. Both photographers captured the public personas of the superstars, with Jackson’s androgynous looks and introspective demeanor, and Fawcett’s zest for life with her incredible smile and long, lustrous hair. On the magazine covers they are referred to as the “Fallen King” and “Fallen Angel”, respectively. The magazine was photographed at Kramerbooks & Afterwords in Washington, D.C. Source: www.huffingtonpost.com Thank you to the group “United States Challenges Only” for featuring this photograph in September 2009. The photograph also placed in the Top Ten of the group’s challenge “Photographs Taken on August 15, 2009”. The first piece for my solo show, ‘flirt’, in September.
Hair has fascinated the world for centuries. Whereas in today’s world it’s more often a fashion statement, throughout history it has had many symbolic significations such as power or social status. It can give away which culture or religion you’re from. It can be flirty, sensual, playful, colourful, rebellious and much more. As such hair is a big part of someone’s personality and can have a great visual impact.
