Lorette Ponds in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, are 5 small ponds that were formed by the diversion of the Kananaskis River. They are often stocked with rainbow trout and fishing is permitted. There is a nice little bridge where you can cross from one side to the other with a paved walking trail all around the ponds. My friends and I built an Inukshuk on the banks of this pond in September 2006, I will check this year when I go back to see if was left there or destroyed. Kananaskis Country is a park located southwest of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. / Canon EOS Rebel XTi; Canon 18-55mm lens / Inukshuk / They are monuments made of unworked stones that are used by the Inuit for communication and survival. The traditional meaning of the inukshuk is “Someone was here” or “You are on the right path.” / (http://www.inukshukgallery.com/inukshuk.html) /

Among the most beautiful, and most popular tourist destinations in the western US, is the magnificent Zion National Park. Just passing through, yesterday afternoon, I was utterly blown away by the fabulous colors of the peaks, all washed and polished by a fresh blast of snow. About half-way down the length of Maligne Lake, in Jasper National Park, Alberta,Canada. Ranges of the Rocky Mountains border both sides of the lake, and the sun broke through the clouds just long enough to highlight the snow trapped in the crevasses along the mountain sides.Lower down towards the tree-line, a solid snowpack stretches across the upper reaches of the valley. Hochjoch (2520 m), covered by fresh snow, makes an interesting background for Herzsee (Heart Lake; 2216 m). Montafon valley, Vorarlberg, Austria. 26th June 2007. Canon EOS300X, Sigma 28-135mm. Post-processing: color correction, sharpening, watercolor. More photographs from Montafon:
I have been told that this shot is rarely captured, due to the frequency of the winds around this area. My Aunt and My Grandmother have tried for years and never had the opportunity to capture this Mountain and its mirrored image before. / I have been back several time time to take more shots but the water was too choppy, I was fortunate with this one. / Nikon D80 Nikor AFS ED 18-135mm Lens With Circular Polarizing Filter / 408 Views

Mount Everest, peak, 29,035 ft (8,850 m) high, on the border of Tibet and Nepal, in the central Himalayas is the highest elevation in the world. Called Chomolungma or Qomolangma [Mother Goddess of the Land] by Tibetans and Sagarmatha [head of the sea] by Nepalis, it is named in English for the surveyor Sir George Everest. It was first climbed on May 28, 1953, when Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay of Nepal reached the summit. The body of George H. L. Mallory, who died in an earlier attempt in 1924, was found on the mountain in 1999 and it will never be known whether or not he reached the summit and died on the way down photographed 02-11-2009 on the Buddha Air flight along the Himalaya range / /

Captured on Lake Rieg, near Murnau in Bavaria, with a view towards the Germany Alps. It was so silent and calm on that late winter afternoon where in summer there is laughter and splashing around from swimmers, sunbathers and people messing about in boats. Nikon D70. Sigma 18-200mm. / Location: Brugger Campsite, Lake Rieg, near Murnau, Germany A similar scene is available in my Calendar Werdenfelser Lakes & Ponds, Bavaria (German text)

In the background is Steel Mountain and the storm on the horizon. This lake is over 200 feet deep in spots, and has hot springs under it as well. This is my country, my favorite place. I lived here for almost six years, and I hope to again someday. This area is very rural and rugged.
