“The weight of the world is love. / Under the burden of solitude, / under the burden of dissatisfaction / the weight, / the weight we carry is love. Who can deny? / In dreams it touches the body, / in thought constructs a miracle, / in imagination anguishes till born in human / looks out of the heart burning with purity / for the burden of life is love, / but we carry the weight wearily, / and so must rest in the arms of love at last, / must rest in the arms of love. / No rest without love, / no sleep without dreams of love / be mad or chill obsessed with angels or machines, / the final wish is love / cannot be bitter, cannot deny, cannot withhold if denied: / the weight is too heavy / must give for no return as thought is given in solitude / in all the excellence of its excess. The warm bodies shine together in the darkness, / the hand moves to the center of the flesh, / the skin trembles in happiness and the soul comes joyful to the eye / yes, / yes, / that’s what I wanted, / I always wanted, / I always wanted, / to return to the body where I was born.” Poetry by Allen Ginsberg Sunset Pa’ako Beach / Makena Maui Hawai’i Fine Art Photography / Copyright © Sharon Mau 2009 / All Rights Reserved This is a composite of four images, one of a beautiful horse I photographed at the 2008 Makawao 4th of July parade on Baldwin Avenue, and three of a beautiful sunset on Pa’ako Beach 30 September 2009. New Mexico’s Highway 3 to Villanuevo State Park is narrow, winding, and treacherous! The posted speed limit is 25 MPH most of the way, but local traffic tends to zoom along at about 40. 9×12 pastel on Colorfix paper This is an old drawing that I decided to upload for the Sacred Places challenge in the Ancient Practices group. The description said it could be a place we have only visited etherically so I thought this might qualify.

There is this little world many, many light years from our present location. It is so remote that it hasn’t been named yet. As far as we know. I liked it so I thought I would share this one surviving image of it. Planetscape created in Artmatic Voyager. Moons created in Bryce 6. Assembled in Photoshop CS2.

This painting is dedicated to Rev.Prof. John Stevens Henslow and Charles Darwin. They shared many years of friendship and would often take long walks together. John Stevens Henslow taught Darwin at Cambridge. Darwin entrusted his whole collection of specimens to Henslow when he returned from the voyage on HMS Beagle, on 2nd October 1836. In a letter written to Hooker concerning Professor Henslow, Darwin wrote….. .....If he is well enough tell him how gratefully and affectionately I shall love and honour him to the day of my death…... Reverend Professor John Stevens Henslow died on May, 16th 1861. / Charles Darwin died on April, 19th 1882. / Ralph Vaughan Williams died on August, 26th 1958. Music -Ralph Vaughan Williams – Darwin’s Grand-Nephew In memory of them all. Portrait of John Steven Henslow one of my Spirit Guides. October, 30th 2009
Designed using my digital art work of the same title.
The aim of this group is to explore images/writing that act as a kind of meditation, a way into other areas and/or levels of consciousness.
So this can be in image form or written form. Hey why not even a t-shirt if you think it has the power. The main point is that you feel it has the potential for a meditation.
The kind of thing I imagine for this group is perhaps in the form of a mandala, a mythic scene evoking other worlds, some way for the imagingation to enter into another world and to travel there.
It is travel in a shamanic sense (though not necessarily involving drums and bells) as in soul-flight, to create a real inner experience. (If any try this with these works, either staring at the picture or holding it in their imaginations, and actually find themselves on a journey, feel free to write about it in the forum.)
Gateways is not specifically about being a spiritual group, though of course that is an aspect of it, inevitably. The work must be an opening and needs to imply something, someplace beyond the actual image presented, either within or out of sight. There needs to be a blank space for the imagination to enter into and create. Or a being that can take you on a journey.
There are no limits on the quantity of work that may be submitted (I find that so annoying).
Feel free to discuss any matters regarding RB or this group in the forum.
Come on in – the water’s fine!
