A well known face in the Bur Dubai Old Souk, this man has been selling old coins and other trinkets for many years. I work with the geriatric community. What I find is that they feel their worst when they have no one to visit or care for them. They seem as if they just give up. But those who have family that love them and visit consistently, have a zest for life and can find so much to do. This was drawn using the stipple effect on 12×12 (30.5×30.5)Strathmore Acrylic Linen Canvas paper. I used a Pilot Percise fine ball black ink pen.
I’m on vacation right now and Ferdinand is probably wondering where I am,each time I work I look for fresh fruits everywhere, his fav.peaches, pears and plums, sometimes I go downstairs at the cafeteria to beg for some….Everytimes he says «écoute la petite, what would you like me to buy for you ,tell me »and I say «nothing» ,he answers «They don’t have that in the stores»I t’s like a ritual …a few weeks ago ,her greatgrandaugther was hit by a drunk driver,20 years old,I though we where gonna loose him,Ferdinand was such in pain and sad,he didn’t want to eat or smile..Hopefully everybody went to talk to him very often ,he had more fruits… he told me last week that the girl was out of the coma and started to talk a little.Last month,I took his picture and told him that everybody said he was a handsome man.I explained to him that his portrait was all over the world…..«I didn’t even comb my hair » he said,it was funny.Mr Ferdinand is 95 years old ,he walks slowly and do everything by himself, never disturbing and always acting like a gentleman .A few women are after him but his wife died 6 months ago and he loved her so much ,I knew her ,a very funny lady. She was alzeimer.I hope he will be okay until I come back…Gigi Since I upload that pic,Ferdinand was told that he was gona die in a month or so due to his sick kidneys.Don’t ask me why the doctor told him I had never understood that part….He past away after 6 months of sufferring…thank you for taking the time
I wanted to express the sense that each of us is changed by our lives, that each person we meet changes us and each experience leaves its mark, leaving us damaged, changed, but if we’re lucky, unbroken. Each of the features used in this image belongs to someone close to me, none are stock, and the blue/green eye is mine. It is a self portrait even though the face is not mine. Photo manipulation using all my own resources. Canon Powershot A480 for all images. Proudly New Zealand-made.
I painted this for a self-portrait challenge on teh web…... Winsor & Newton Artists paper 300gms… what ever colours my brush found…. app 7.5×9.5 inches, Though it may look like a pastel, it isnt.. most of my paintings look like this! removed my specs for the photo hence shortsighted contemplative look

Canon EOS 400D / - / I’m doing this self portrait series because I have reached a milestone in my life… I am happy! It’s taken 37 years to learn who I am, who I want to be and love myself. I’m done with seeking others approval and acceptance, if I can look myself in the mirror and like what I see then thats all the approval and acceptance I need. I make mistakes but I always strive to learn from them and not repeat those that have hurt others or myself. I am a strong, intelligent, genuine, loyal and loving woman. I am a twin, I am a daughter, I am a partner, I’m a friend, I am a business woman and an artist, and I am gay. I have found out the hard way the difference between lust & love and how rewarding and beautiful life can be. The most important thing I have discovered is I can be myself and as long as I am happy with the person I am thats what matters. I have accepted my self, my shortcomings, my weaknesses aswell as my strengths and qualities. I feel I have evolved and since I reached my mid thirty’s I have worried alot less and started living a whole lot more :)
My son, Thomas, at 13 weeks old. I adore his beautiful dark eyes – so angelic! /
