Washed up Mere / is a digital enhanced work on a natural stone i found at the mouth of Lake Onoke and the incoming tide from Palliser Bay, view towards Lake Ferry township. This is the signature canvas to a limited edition series of Large canvases, exclusive to a country estate in Martinborough, Wairarapa, New Zealand (or me!) This is the Matakitakiakupe (Cape Palliser) Collection Kupe himself named Matakitaki, which means ‘to look upon with admiration’ because of its beautiful view. When he and his wife ascended a nearby hill, helooked across the blue waters of Cook Strait and sawthe snow-capped Tapuaenuku, the highest peak in theinland Kaikoura Range. It is always fascinating to watch whatever the waves bring ashore. A passing low had stirred up the waves in the lagoon and the breakers on the reef were crashing yet the piece of kelp looked serene. Taken in the Bahamas.
