After waking to thick smoke each morning for the last week or so….unfortanetly its that time of year again…a permit is required after the end of this month to do any burning off and everyone has decided to do their bit and throw a match in!!...a few have gotten away but thankfully have been retained…took this image of Johns back with his jacket on and tryed to blend a fire image with it…*) DebsPhotos
This weekend I attended the NSW Firebrigade-Firefighter Championships . / These championships are held to develop, maintain & enhance the operational skills of firefighters; Promote a professional image of the NSWFB to the community. This is our local team competing. & of course those not competing, take photographs. / This event being undertaken is the Urban Pump Suction. (I do know how to Google for info). This is a photo of a typical Sunday morning’s training day for the Langwarrin, Victoria, Fire Brigade taken about 1965. / In front a newly built ( by the volunteers) emergency vehicle, at the rear of the photo, and inside the station, our Country Fire Authority supplied fire truck. I was a member of the brigade then, communications officer my title. We were supplied the truck , training and equipment but we did not receive helmets or any protective clothing, that came later . The team work was great and we had a great fire brigade captain and regional officer . In those days we had no women members but there was a Ladies Auxiliary who supported the volunteers in fund raising and refreshments for the fire fighters. / Canon Canonet 35 mm
Seminole County Florida USA Fire/Rescue station 13, Forest City is just 1 year old, replacing a much smaller station just down highway 436. The station has room for expansion and will soon house a rebuilt antique pumper. Nikon D2H 14mm lens 1/250sec f8 EI200 / “Lucky 13” was featured in Fire Station 9/18/09 /
We’ve just got the one truck, we only have a tin shed and our kitchen is the bar-b-que, a water tank on the side of the shed and we only have the one tap with running water! But we still man our truck and turn out when the pagers sound! We’re a bunch of country boys and girls on the very edge of Geelong, doing our part for the community, our call rate may be small, but we make up for that with dedication!
An Australian fire appliance sits in the engine bay, ready to respond. Some of my other ‘fire’ work. / / /
This is our small local volunteer Fire-station here at Upper Corindi were I live….its celebrating its 10th anniversary today!!! It was thanks to a lovely old lady who owned the piece of land and donated it to them…and who also bequethed money to its running in her ‘will’ that has helped keep it going !!! The first “offical’ fire fought here years ago was done with one donated “nap-sack” and gum bushes!!!

NSW Fire Brigades Mona Vale 6 Fire Station. Located on the Norhtern Beaches of Sydney. Inside is a Varley Firepak appliance, Urban Pumper. Mona Vale is a fully permanent manned fire station however hasn’t always been that was and used to have retained staff although not for many years now. The old siren can still be seen on the roof. The station is located on a small side street off the main road and just to the east of the CBD and shopping areas. As you can see it’s a fairly leafy area and the property is quite small which makes getting a good photograph a little hard. It would appear that 6 has been a bit neglected by the powers that be over the years. Probably because it’s not a particularly busy station so it tends to fly under the radar.
Tumbledown Dick NSW Rural Fire Service Fire Station. It’s an odd name I know but it’s a locality of the Ingleside area in Sydney in the Urban-Bushland Interface area of the Northern Beaches. As you can see the station is located in the middle of bushland area. Ironically during the 1994 Sydney bushfires this became threatened by bush fire itself. The Tumbledown Dick Brigade were elsewhere and their station was saved by the Victorian’s Metropolitain Fire Brigade who came up to assist the Fire Fighting efforts. I’ve tried googling to find out how Tumbledown Dick got it’s name but my efforts were relatively futile, sorry. AS IS.
I reckon most buildings must have burnt down fairly well in the days of this contraption. I may have overworked it a bit, let me know if I have and I will have another go! Taken at Churchill Island…in terrible light!
Taken at old Gippstown today…....
This is the other one, except it’s been given the “treatment” courtesy of an “action” downloaded from the web (cheating?). Anyway I was surprised by the result. Original taken at Old Gippstown
Looking like a grizzled old fire fighter, the reality is that it’s just Mikey, 25 year old volunteer fire fighter. Taken 6/30/2009 at our weekly training.
