Originally impressionism was that the colour should be dropped pure on the canvas rather than mixed on the palette. Today, now that we have so many new paints and mediums to work with, while the original concept of impressionism remains the same, styles and techniques have evolved. / My style of Impressionism embraces traditional painting. It is the evolution of impressionism that i am hoping to achieve, from the original traditional techniques of impressionist painting all the way to this modern impressionist digital art which can be stylized and painterly depending on my subject and mood. Digital painting is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolor, oils, etc. are applied using digital tools by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus, and software. Digital painting differs from other forms of digital art, particularly computer-generated art, in that it does not involve the computer rendering from a model. The artist uses painting techniques to create the digital painting directly on the computer. / I create the painting, directly on my PC, by using a Wacom tablet, a stylus pen and ArtRage painting software. The Wacom tablet can be compared to a canvas or watercolor paper surface. The stylus pen is my paintbrush.

I captured this nightscape and wanted a more painterly appearance. This involved painting this image using Painter X and coarse bristle brushes. I then went in and cleaned up some of the identifying building names…Nashville continues urban growth. “Featured by Fine Art Digital Painters November 2009.”

This is a commissioned piece I finished a couple of days ago and is a Digital Photo Painting completed in Corel Painter X with the Wacom Tablet. Here is an original scan of the 4×6” snapshot and a before and after of the cottage. / / What was involved in completing this piece? / -over 100 individual elements were layered in, removed, and or copied over before painting even began. -The entire cottage was basically rebuilt, section by section. The roof, windows, railing, siding and the lattice. As you can see in the before & after, the lattice was not all the same color. -I even digitally airbrushed every shadow hole between all the lattice sections. -The siding color in the original was not true to life. I also fixed that. -As the sky was blown out in the original, I added my own hint of blue from my image library. -Due to the time of year (late fall) the grass had also gone quite brown. I painted it a lighter shade of green as I didn’t want it to blend into the hedge color. -The stone staircase was put in this year but comes down from the road entry (so it was not visible from the lake side). It was inserted into 2 different locations at the client’s request. -For interest and to tie the composition together even better I added some fall colored flowers around the base of a tree, and along the rocks. -I also added a new Canadian Flag, blowing in the breeze, as the original was laying flat against the pole. -The hedges on the left were trimmed down so 3 large rocks (important to the customer) could be inserted and visible. -I had to remove a striped matt hanging over the railing, and all clutter sitting on the deck. -I repainted the water and added subtle reflections from the flowers. This project took me over 20 hours to complete. I think I even shed a tear or two…lol BUT I learned so very much and have grown because of it :) It is all worth while when you receive very positive feedback from a customer who is thrilled to bits at what you could accomplish for them. What a blessing that she had faith in me to do this for her! I’m so glad I didn’t disappoint her. / / Digital Portrait Painting – Photo Painting Services / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST
