Shot with a Canon 5DMKII and canon 100 mm f/2.8 USM macro lens with Canon macro twin lite MT-24ex 1:1 Macro I think this Dragonfly is a Fiery Skimmer Dragonfly – Orthetrum villosovittatum from the FAMILY LIBELLULIDAE. This is also known as the Bog Skimmer Dragonflies. I also think this is the female.
Close-up shot of a Southern Hawker Dragonfly. My first close-up of an insect. A beautiful insect, which I hope to be able to photograph in flight one day.

There I was, trying to get some macro shots of some roses in my neighborhood. The light was terrible and I was just about to give up, when this beautiful dragonfly flew by. I had to take my camera off the tripod to get a shot of her since she didn’t land too long in a particular spot. It was a challenging day for me, and capturing this dragonfly wasn’t easy. She finally flew off to the top branch of a tree!
