IMPORTANT – BY Accepting an invitation to join this Group You agree to be bound by the Groups rules and Guildelines. The final say remains in the hands of the Co-Hosts of the group as to what work is or is not acceptable. This is not open to debate.Artists wo either submit work that is totally unsuitable for the group run the risk of being excluded from the group. One or all of the cohosts will visit your gallery and if the work is suitable we will send you one warning regards unsuitable work submissions. In the case your work is nbot suited to the group you will be removed. At a later date if you consider you are turning out work more suited to the group we will gladly address your application. The bottom line is that we do not want Artists or hosts wasting more time than is neccessary with unsuitable work and quibbles over suitable artwork where the Artist clearly either has not read or understood the group rules or guidelines. It is not our intention to exclude Artists from the group but we as hosts have lives away from the group as well as the need for time to create aArt of pur own. I think that goes without saying
This group is exclusively for people who paint in the digital medium.
The focus of the group centers around work done using brush work and not images manipulated and overlaid with filters. Digital Artwork this may be but digital brushstrokes they are not
Admission to Digital Brushstrokes is by Application or Invitation only. In the case of Application your gallery will be reviewed by one or all of the hosts and if suitable you will be sent an invitation to join us.
The aim of the group is to promote a Wide Range of Art work made primarily or exclusively with brushes or work that exhibits a traditional brushed look though done with digital painting applications. THIS DOES NOT MEAN FILTERS.
Revised Rules are as follow:
Artwork done using the brush engines of main ‘known’ digital painting applications like Corel Painter, ArtRage and Twisted Brush is acceptable as long as brushes are used primarily in the compostition of the finished Artwork. Photopainting and photo-cloe painting with Artbrushes once again is acceptable as before. If the result is too photo-like it will be rejected so choose your brushes wisely. Work that amounts to paintbuchet or gradient fills with the whole artillery of filters thrown at it is not brushwork, and will be trejected from the group along with the user.
Abstracts – once again people took it upon themselves to define what was allowable in the group and we had Vectors filters and all that. Once again the memphasis of the group is on Brushwork. If you paint abstracts check out Alber Sellaman’s page for an idea of what will be accepted or even featured in the group.
Fractal Abstracts – All I can say here is look at my (zooreka) submissions to this gallery that use fracatls. Use of fractals is welcome as long as it compliments a brushed painting. I have seen too many fractals uploaded to the group that have maybe a smudge brush applied to it or similar – again not acceptable.
Now as to tools… It is no longer acceptable just to upload work to the gallery that obviously uses only the smudge brush, or liquifyfilter. Nor is it acceptable to upload phrtomontages to which lighting touchups are applied with the dodge and burn tools. Lovely as a lot of this work is it does not best reflect the aim of the group. The group is intended for more serious painters who use a variety of brushes to conquer their medium.
Matte painting is still acceptable but only if there is a visible degree of painting attached to the work to make it distinguishable as a painting. Again I urge members to view the gallery of Tom Godfrey for a better idea of what is acceptable in the group. As Matte is quite a varied discipline please understand that the end say as with all the work aceptable in the group is that of the group hosts.
I would like to clarify once again that as a style MANGA is not allowed in the group. Granted there are some great Manga Painters but they make up perhaps 1% of the 1%. We do not wish for this group to be overrun with pokemon style bucket-filled comic book art. There is a big difference between Liechenstein and Pokemon. Judging by the trend on dA Manga is about the last thing I or any of my previous co-hosts would want to have waded through in terms of moderation and rejection. Nothing worse than 100 submisions with bunnehs and chan chan sans, I want a grup that is reserved for adults not 5 year olds… so therefore Manga is not acceptable in the group. If we do come across a quality Manga Artist we may invite them to join at a future time
Oriental Fine Art on the other hand most certainly is…. again be sure you know the difference!
So in a Nutshell
No To
Manga/Anime
Straight Vector Art (Mixed media where the image is more than 50% brushes is acceptable)
Photography
Straight Photo Manips (again work must have a more than obvious painted appearance to the end result)
Pixel Art
Signature Tags
Emo Art
Yes To
Classical Styles (Impressionist, surrealist, Cubist, Deco etc)
Contemporary Digital Matte and photorealism where brushwork is obvious.
Photomanip Digital Paintings where there is substantial evidence of brushstrokes…. by that we do not mean a few losely painted stars in photoshop or texture blends…
Pretty much all else that doesn’t fit the NO TO List above
Once Again
The Group Hosts will have sole discretion as to what is and is not ultimately accepted into the group and reserve the right to reject work without comment or comeback from the submitter.
That’s it!!!
