Kent R Keller
West Valley City, Utah, USA

It is clear when viewing his amazing portfolio that he truly loves nature and wildlife. He took his first wildlife photos at age 14 when he discovered an active golden eagle nest in a canyon near his home in Utah. He started a research project on nesting golden eagles in 1977 and aquired state and federal permits to work with eagles. He keeps track of productivity and has banded almost 2,000 nestlings. Beside eagles he loves photographing all kinds of wildlife but lately has been concentrating on mountain goats and wild horses. All of his photos of wildlife are taken in the wild.

I am particularly fond of his wild horses photographs as they capture the beauty of them so eloquently and mystically! As the quote on Kent’s profile states: In the words of author Henry Beston, “We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals…For the animal shall not be measured by man…They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth”.

Having been to the Utah high country, I now must go back and visit Kent’s world and hope for just a glimpse of what he has captured. I hope you will treat yourself to viewing his entire portfolio – just click his image above!

For this spotlight exhibit, I’ve selected six of my favorites, but in truth I’ve yet to find one of his images I don’t love! Please click on the images below and leave Kent a well deserved comment and kudos!

P.S. I once asked Kent what kind of camera with that mondo lens he uses and he shared that he uses: Canon 7D and a Canon 500 f/4 lens. He also uses a 70-200 zoom lens and a 12-24mm wide angle. The man has definitely got the right equipment!
