The Challenge

~ 2012: A New Perspective on the Future? ~

By the time this challenge closes, 12-21-12 will be behind us.

If Worst Case Scenarios come true (aka, the End of Existence as We Know it), either we won’t be here anymore to talk about it…. and/or we won’t be able to communicate because the internet will not exist (what with massive solar storms, hyper-quakes, mega-volcanoes, pole shift, etc. disrupting satellites and possibly the planet as a whole). BUT ~ ! Assuming we’re still here and things are ticking right along — remember Y2K? ~ many of us just may find our viewpoints of the Future need a little tweaking here and there!

Our fist-ever challenge in this group about a year ago was Eve of Change: of 20 entries, 10 portrayed a catastrophic ending of the world in the not-too-distant future..

In a second challenge two months later (Visions of the End), 12 entries out of 23 referred to a Cataclysmic End of the World … probably, in 2012.

And in a third, six months ago, it was 16 entries out of 30.

Pretty dire stuff! And it’s not surprising, given how the Media has played all the worst speculations to the hilt. In the past few weeks, it’s been impossible to watch TV without sitting through yet another documentary on the Mayan prophecies, the Book of Revelations, the forecasts of Nostradumus or the countless ways in which the Planet Earth ~ and all of us ~ could meet demise at any given second! Like so many others in the world, we’ve all been impacted by a multitude of Signs and Prophecies suggesting that the End is Imminent; not the least of which, is the so-called End of Time as depicted in the Mayan Calendar, due to befall us all Dec. 21. (In actuality, the calendar predicts the end of the Third Baktun; not Time itself. Another, even older Mayan calendar has been uncovered which presents another, longer time-cycle so it seems safe to say the thought that time itself would “end” this year, is somewhat spurious.)

Either way, the question is… what’s your vision of the future, now? Assuming we’re still here next month (of course)…. Has your viewpoint changed? Do you think the End has merely been delayed? Or do you see some hope for what’s to come, and a brighter period of time ahead? Show us your visions in your artwork! Whether positive or negative, or in-between.

Art and shirt designs invited! You can show us what your vision of the future really is… or, comment on the Doomsday Issue in and of itself. Style and approach are up to you. Be serious – be humorous – or be satirical if you prefer. All mediums accepted (Photoshop, Bryce, drawings, paintings) but NO ABSTRACTS PLEASE!! Subjects must be those we recognize!

Entries not on topic or unsuitable for Cutting Edge will be removed at the discretion of the hosts so please be sure your work refers to the topic of the challenge and adheres to our group requirements!

Judging / Voting Criteria

Vote for more than one. Select your favorites based on artistic excellence, creativity, and how well they illustrate the challenge theme.

As always, No Soliciting of Votes. Any member caught padding the ballot box either via Bubblemail, Facebook, or any other venue will have their work removed and also be deleted from the group. It may sound harsh but soliciting for votes is FRAUD, especially when monetary prizes are involved. So play fair! Let the artwork win on merit, not on popularity.

VOTES are IMPORTANT! We have not received a lot of votes in recent challenges. Reminders will be sent if possible, but if you enter PLEASE PARTICIPATE!

Rewards & Prizes

If we have at least 20 entries, and the winning image gets at least 5 votes, winner will receive a $20 voucher from the Bubble! Winning entry will be Featured on our Group Home Page and the winner will receive a banner (complete with all due Bragging Rights).

Ties WILL be recognized. It’s Bubble policy.

Top 10’s will receive a banner too, if we have 20 images or more. Otherwise, we will award the Top 5. (Individual images must have at least 3 votes)

Additional Information

All entries must be in the group by voting time, or they will removed! It’s only fair to other members.

We’re looking forward to your thought-provoking work!

Looking on the bright side, our predictions are 1, that we will be here for the voting (!) and 2,, perhaps we’ll see some indicators that humanity’s outlook over-all will be more positive once the Dreaded Date is past! (Couldn’t hurt)

Note: Hosts, as members too, may enter challenges at Cutting Edge
