Whilst staying with friends in Painswick, Gloucestershire, in England, I was asked to photograph some of the rooms for them as reminders of this lovely home, as they were due to be moving back to America soon. I decided to put a couple of the rooms here in my RB portfolio. This is shot is of our friends’ daughter’s room who is away at school. Our daughter stayed in her room whilst visiting for a few days. This is the second photo of this room I have put up. I love the view from this room, looking across the valley and countryside. I managed to get the bed in the mirror’s reflection. There is just something so romantic about a room with such a beautiful view, like something that might be portrayed in a period drama. This is a HDR image combining 7 bracketed shots using Photomatix Pro for Macs. Slight adjustments in lighting and tone were done using the enhanced details tool. I have left the image with its warm lighting unadjusted. As HDR images go, this is “As Is.” Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll / 17-35mm wide angle zoom lens / f/7.1 / 1/2000, 1/1250, 1/250, 1/125, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15 / ISO 400

Situated just 65 miles from Tucson, Arizona, the 300-year-old property is one of the great haciendas in America. Established as a guest ranch in 1923, Rancho De La Osa’s history has been lovingly preserved in the beautiful buildings that rest comfortably in the rolling grasslands of the high Sonora Desert. The Cantina is said to be the oldest building in Arizona. Photographed with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28.

This is the second of a series of what we call Gingerbread houses. They were the Victorian homes of wealthy people at the turn of the last century through the late 30s in the local area. This is one of several seen in Waxahachie, Texas, known for the number of gingerbread houses to be seen along its historical streets. Canon EOS Rebel T1i HDR info / tripod, 3 RAW exposures +2 to -2, Photomatrix Pro 3.2
This is the third of my Gingerbread House Series image. The beautiful house seen here was found sitting high on a hill in Weatherford, Texas. I feared angering the people living there to go on their circle driveway to get a closer look, so this one was taken from the street. Knowing this will allow you to see how far it was off the street. Canon EOS Rebel T1i HDR info / tripod, 3 RAW images +2 to -2, Photomatrix Pro 3.2
Whilst out with some friends on a day visit to Murton Park, near Harrogate, North Yorkshire (England), which houses the Yorkshire Museum of Farming, amongst other attractions, we enjoyed the brilliantly built replica of a Dark Ages / Viking settlement which is another of the museum’s main attractions. The work that has gone into the historical accuracy is astounding. The site contains many replicas of homes and social gathering places, built to accuracy according to available historical and archeological information. This shot is of the wood stack sitting just outside of the main hall where the village members would have gathered together to have meetings, and use this as a social venue. It was much like a pub or even a church might be today. It was the social centre, and always had a fire burning which is why they had such a large pile of wood on hand. I love the textures of the wood here. Extreme sunlight meant that the shadows under the eaves was strong, so that is why I chose to shoot it as a HDR image. This is a HDR image combining 7 bracketed shots using Photomatix Pro for Macs. Slight adjustments in lighting and tone were done using the enhanced details tool. I have left the image unadjusted.
