Cities start as little trading posts on a river, a place called “nowhere” on the edges of an empire long faded from memory, then grow into a town, and from there the true nature of humanity takes over: building a dream and a nightmare at the same time. Everchanging history stalks the streets of cities, creating a tide of nostalgia and self consciousness that grows into what we call culture. Cities are the scene of love stories built of bricks and mortar, and of horrors lurking in their dark corners. The sound of jackhammers and police sirens echo through the canyons, bouncing off the reflections of our soul.
In this challenge let’s look a little more deeply at cities, at their constant changing face, and the interplay between our thoughts and their physical reality. We may not like what we see because they are really our physical mirror, but I hope we will be able to learn how to live in them a little better.
Conceptual brilliance, visual mastery, photographic genius, ….and of course a dash of art.
