Yup! Those eyes…...!

What a lovely image!

I have a small observation to make that you may or may not agree with but it’s what I think about the the composition.

I make this observation regularly and it probably is my most oft made comment (often written differently each time but the essence is the same).

The balance between negative space and subject and the rule of thirds dictate the outcome of any image but is particularly important with portraits, In this case, it is not the background that is the negative space but her forehead – it takes up the whole of the upper third of the image.

It’s like this: it seems that her eyes have gripped you so much that they have become the focus of your image – you have concentrated so much on them when making the photo you placed them in the centre of the image. This is a natural thing to do but I believe that it is not the correct thing to do. The correct thing to do is to look at the negative spaces, to look at the whole image, to look at the thirds composition, then make the photo. Then you may get something like this:
