Altered Art to accompany my poem Heart of Stone Part of my ‘Perception’ series, see Heart of Ice / And Heart of Fire Altered Art. This one took forever to get right… I used my own photos/textures together with the following, Stock: / Some old Rock by Neb8stock / Bone Hands by XaXushqa / Moon by FantasyStock Textures: / Sirius_SDZ / Enframed / Khaosdog The butterflies are Zebra Longwings and have been (digitally) hand painted in Corel Painter. The heart is a shape from the Photoshop custom shapes combined with the ‘some old rock’ stock and blended in Painter, with texture added in Photoshop. Jan 2010 – 103 views

The sharp edges and bumps along its back are caused by wind-blown spray, which hardens small areas of rock. The softer rocka round these erodes away, leaving an uneven surface. Wave energy channelled along the side of the stack carves the deep smooth grooves just above sea level. With one wave every 14 seconds, there’s a lot of erosion over the years. The Razorback once extended much further out to sea. The force of the waves gradually eroded and undercut the base of the stack. Vertical cracks in the rock were widened by rainwater forming a line of weakness. Huge blocks of rock then collapsed into the sea, leaving a rock shelf.

The remains of a dead tree in the Soususvlie, Namib Desert. Namibia The Soususvlie is a lake, long since dead for hundreds of years. The trees and life within it all died as the lake dried up. Everything has been preserved by the massive amount of salt left in the ground. The cycle of life continues as a new lake will form over the next set of sand dunes, and this soususvlie will eventually be covered with sand as the dunes gradually progress and move over time.
