I think , since we are a Cats and Dogs group it would be appreciated to have Medical news on veterinary care….such as vaccinations and Steriods…

Now, let me say, I am talking about what we don’t know, until its to late

Examle

I had a cat, which got her yearly vaccination, always in the left rear hip, that vaccination, gave her cancer…..did you know that the, Adjuvants which are compounds that are added to vaccines in an attempt to increase their effectiveness, causing Cancer, does your vet tell you this……….

My Cat Mercedes has a condition,, which she gets red sores at the back of her mouth and her throat swells,(she is a stray) I do not know her history, any way she has been getting Prednisone shots and they work, (now) the Prednisone shots has caused her to become diabetic………hopefully this is temporary ….but who know…….

So I thought there should be a form or a way we all could share information about these experiences and share informations to help each other out

and don’t even get me started on Poor Buster, he will always be an on going medical problem

So if any one has ideas how to share all this informations, pleas jump in and we will try to set on a form some how..

Thanks Laura

I am embarrassed to say how recently I learned you should not give your dog bones because they can break their teeth. Why do they sell these bones in the pet stores? I had two dogs that broke teeth! I didn’t know until it was too late and the teeth had to be extracted.

This idea of sharing what we know is fabulous! How, is the question….my RescueRobbie has all kinds of health issues, and I’ve learned a great deal about steroids vs stomach sensitivity, would be happy to share!

Christina, don’t be embarrassed most people do not realize that bones can chip or break a dogs teeth, my vet says that bone chewing is one of the biggest problems with dogs, when people believe the bone chewing is cleaning the tarter off the teeth it can in fact break and or chip their teeth, and worse must people do not notice it until there is an abscess and the tooth most be pulled..believe me your not alone

A wonderful idea! My tip is this dog bowl with dividers. As soon we got our pup home and eating time was a horrible ordeal, he’d finished the food in a blink of the eye.. The bloating of his stomach made him wining occasionally thru the night. This bowl will make him take time to eat. I truly believe he does better with digesting food and maybe,ha ha 3ven enjoys it!

Great tips, keep them coming!

This is great news because my 2 do the same thing, they woof their food as you said in a blink of the eye!

Look at your babies faces, would you do this deliberately, feed him harmful food? you as the pet owner need to find what is truly best for your pets

This may shock some of us but it is the Truth about Commercial Dog Food

The book specifically documents and details every claim made – these aren’t just wild claims with no evidence. The shocking, hurtful specifics which are put forth in this book brought tears to my eyes on several occassions and were truly disturbing.

Some of the facts which Lewis documents and discusses are that:

Preservatives, known to inflict on our innocent dogs, horrendous diseases like multiple cancers, kidney failure, liver failure, immune system collapse and many more heartless ways to die.

The processed feces of other dead animals.

Putrid road kill.

The decaying carcasses of dead dogs, cats, zoo animals and animal control

The deadly poison, Sodium Pentobarbital, used the kill the animals mentioned above by lethal injection.

Pet collars, flea collars, ID tags and plastic bags from euthanized pets

How the ingredients in commercial dog food actually cause behavioral problems

Although some of these claims seems shocking, and somewhat unbelievable, they are thoroghly backed up with evidence that cannot be questioned – that is, perhaps what the most disturbing aspect of this book is – the evidence and documentation cannot be argued whatsoever.

Go on line and look up…. Dog Food Secrets,…hope you have a strong stomach..

I would refer to your comment regarding the steroid Prednisolone. Snowdrop developed a problem when she was three, and frequently vomited blood. She was referred to The Small Animals Hospital in Edinburgh for tests, and she attended twice but they were unable to find out what was causing it, and they put her on Prednisolone. It made her excessively hot and lethargic. She took them on and off for a period of about three years, and I knew that long term they were bad for her. Then she developed a skin allergy and guess what, they prescribed the same steroids for this as well, but I said I was not happy about it, so eventually they gave her Atopica Cyclosporine which has the same properties as the steroids, but without the side effects, and she has been taking these eve since.

Interestingly enough, she had a small skin irritation in between her toes previously, but it had been controlled by an ointment, then she came into contact with a boy who had Impetigo, and her condition worsened badly and I developed a huge and painful boil on my back. I blame the Impetigo for both, as I understand that it is the same bacteria.

With regard to her diet, I only feed her home cooked food, so I don’t believe that could be the cause of any of her medical conditions.

I have a female cat that suffers from bladder crystals – apparently not common in females. She is on special dietry food to counteract this, however I supplement her diet with fresh fish and tuna. It is worth the effort and expense because she’s never been so healthly. I have not given my pets supermarket food in years.

Commercial food and veterinary businesses are now large at money making.
Naturally they advertise. Some are more honest then others.
I read a lot on a web about contents of pet food and health issues, I discussed all this with our vets too.

What they say is yes, they don’t believe in over-vaccinating animals and it does give them cancer in many occasions. Their advice to me was to have them done at 8 weeks, then a booster in about a month, then at one year old and after that only every three years. We also have only one vaccine for cats – it’s three in one covering cat flue and other two common illnesses. With dogs we have five-in-one plus we have to give dogs rabies vaccine every three years as well. Vets advised strongly against vaccinating cats for rabies, unless they are exposed to the areas where lots of rabies-carriers are and if they fight a lot.
Dogs – well, it’s a law here to vaccinate them for rabies.
I often took my babies to vets if I worried about this or that, and after check-up Vets often avoided giving them medications or injections, saying that especially cats have natural strong ability to heal, and whenever we can – we must avoid medicating them.

It is so sad to hear about so many problems with commercial food, what do we feed and how do we choose our brand of pet food?
In here we don’t have choice. Maybe just two or three brands and not always available. Naturally I raised all my babies on a raw diet.
It may sound crazy, but we buy for them best quality meat, chicken and I labor every day chopping that up for cats. But lo behold – they’re not always hungry (I feed them ad-lib), and meat dries out and if not very fresh – they won’t eat it. So, if good stuff left over – I collect it and cook it for myself, LOL! Why waste?
I would not advise to do what I do to anybody, but it’s known that the raw meat diet for cats is the best.
