The sky wasn’t very exciting so I’ve played with it. Hope you like it!
I was fortunate to shoot this picture with a point-and-shoot 35mm camera. / Paris, France.
One of the stunning cathedrals in the Kremlin, Moscow. This one was the private chapel of the Tsars.
I love Montmartre, I can roam around its little streets all day long with the camera in my hands trying to capture street scenes, buildings, little details or anything reflecting the character of the place. I find this catholic basilica truly magnificent. The construction of the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur began in 1875 and was completed in 1914. Camera used: Nikon D60 with Nikon VR18-55mm lens. Thank you very much, I’m honoured that this work was featured in the Black & White Photography Group on November 13, 2009 and in Capital cities of the World Group on November 14, 2009!
The Church of Resurrection or the Church of Our Saviour on Spilled Blood on Griboedov chanel, Saint Petersburg, Russia. The Church was built in 1883-1907 on the place where the imperior Alexander 2nd was killed on march 1st 1881. The church was styled in typical Russian architecture as a sort of copy of St.Basil Cathedral in Moskow / (St.Petersburg is a former capital of Russian Empire, now the capital of Leningrad region and a cultural capital of Russia)

Part of a sculpture outside of Kilmainham Jail, Dublin, Ireland. At least 14 leaders of the Easter Rising were executed at Kilmainham Jail in 1916. It was closed in 1924 and is now open to the public. This sculture sits opposite the entrance to the jail and serves as a reminder of what happened inside. Taken on my first trip to Dublin in 2008 Taken with Panasonic Lumix FZ30 – straight from the camera. (AS IS, Finepix F31fd) / Actually, it’s the Horse Guard’s Parade, as viewed from the Buckingham Palace side of St. James’s Park (the oldest Royal Park in London). The park itself is a haven for many species of birds (and of course, a great number of grey squirrels). Going for a walk at lunchtime around the lake, it’s hard to believe that you are only a few minutes’ stroll away from the Houses of Parliament and if you wave towards Buckingham Palace, Her Majesty might see you. The park’s history can be found on the Royal Parks site and more about the Horse Guards Parade, here (for those short on time, I recommend the shorter Wikipedia entry). / The photo won the ‘A slice of Heaven’ challenge on the 13th Oct 2009. / /

Human habitation of the site is dated back as far as the 9th century BC, although the nature of early settlement is unclear. There has been a royal castle here since at least the reign of David I in the 12th century, and the site continued to be a royal residence until the Union of the Crowns in 1603. As one of the most important fortresses in the Kingdom of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle has been involved in many historical conflicts, from the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century, up to the Jacobite Rising of 1745, and has been besieged, both successfully and unsuccessfully, on several occasions. From the later 17th century, the castle became a military base, with a large garrison. Its importance as a historic monument was recognised from the 19th century, and various restoration programmes have been carried out since. Few of the present buildings pre-date the Lang Siege of the 16th century, when the medieval fortifications were largely destroyed by artillery bombardment. The notable exception is St Margaret’s Chapel, the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh, which dates from the early 12th century.[1] Among other significant buildings of the castle are the Royal Palace, and the early-16th-century Great Hall. The castle also houses the Scottish National War Memorial, and National War Museum of Scotland. The castle is now in the care of Historic Scotland, and is Scotland’s second-most-visited tourist attraction.[2] Although the garrison left in the 1920s, there is still a military presence at the castle, largely ceremonial and administrative, and including a number of regimental museums. It is also the backdrop to the annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and has become a recognisable symbol of Edinburgh and of Scotland.
