Sunset on the jetty, West Mersea by Alice Kent
Taken on a long exposure on a still evening in West Mersea, Essex. This was the end of a lovely afternoon crabbing! :D I didnt have anything with me, so the camera was balanced on the edge of the jetty, which was a bit of a cause for concern! Canon powershot Best viewed large :) You attach bait of some sort, normally bacon or fish heads, to a weight on the end of a line, then cast your line to sit on the river floor. pulling the line up every now and again will give you a nice bucket full of crabs ranging from as small as your thumbnail (little finger if you have big nails!!) to about 15cm across, including legs (so not toooo big!- safe for kiddiewinks!) The best bit is when you release them onto the jetty and have races to the edge :) (But watch out for passing labradors!) Featured in Canon vs Nikon, 01/11/09 (shame really as I now use a nikon!! :’( :P (thank you anyway!! never say no to a feature! :))

BEST VIEWED LARGER Thank you for your views, comments and favouritings / Right Spot – CHECK / No Boats – CHECK / Enough Cloud – CHECK / That Consistency to the Water – CHECK / Lights in varying colours – Check / Reflections on Water – Check / Run for the D300 and the tripod – DEFINITELY Caught a range of shots on this Friday morning reached my vantage point about 5.30am. I saw these reflections and ran for the camera. Sydney Harbour like a mill pond before the many vessels start their morning trips and disturbing it’s surface. The other factor is that look to the water surface that landscape photographers might know it’s like a oily look to the water that lends itself to wonderful reflective surface. It took many shots of Sydney Harbour this morning, if, and you should have seen the sunrise that followed . WAIT ! yes i have photos of that as well. PLEASE READ THIS DESCRIPTION. [AS IS} / I am a missionary, born in Northern Ireland and living in London. my passion in life is to help the poor in rural and isolated villages in Africa and India. Abhijeet in Hindu language means “one who is victorious, a star”. She certainly lives up to her name. 3 years old and already has faced abuse, and hunger. She was close to death and in much pain. Abijeet is one child we rescued through The INDIAN NEW LIFE MISSION, based in India. Her smile melted my heart and as I was told her story I could not help give God thanks for the few Indian Christians that reached out to her. With little money, they took her into the Orphanage, where now she is cared for. I now have sponsored Abijeet and for only £10 per month, she is fed, clothed and will attend a full education when she is old enough. I do not get financial funding from any Church, My own income is little. But I made my mind up a long time ago to share what God has blessed me with with the poor. I have not gone hungry, nor my family. I rent my home, and drive a car. My children are all educated and blessed by God. I have lacked nothing,because blesses the sower. Gods burning Love and Passion for the outcast and poor burns deep within my heart, and hopefully can be seen throgh my life and camera lens. Abijeet is a shining star and a true testimony of what Love and sharing can do. Please Pray for me, that I can bless many more suffering children like Abijeet. I am a missionary and was born in Northern Ireland and now live in London. My passion and inspiration to work and help these precious poor is born from my personal relationship with God. his love and mercy changed my life completely in 1986. 50 of the 64 children from this village have never gone to school. Mary is 12 years old and she cares for her younger brother. She never has gone to school like most in Tunga/Zuga village. I called this photograph “what If”. What if someone paid the £70 -$120. per year for her school fees, uniform and text books?. What if someone wanted to give Mary a future where she could learn to read, write, and what if Mary learned skills that would earn her money and she could help her younger brother also to go to school? / What if Mary had the change to be what she wants to be, a Nurse? What if someone took the what if and made it all possible for her?. ALL MONEY RAISED FROM SALE OF MY ART, AND DONATIONS MADE VIA OUR CHARITY WEBSITE, GOES TO HELP THESE PRECIOUS CHILDREN. Salome sits at the fire and starts her day at sunrise before anyone else get up She prepares what little food she has to feed her younger sister and disabled mother. She has never been to school nor had time to play like other children. Something went very wrong when Angel, her younger sister was born and mother was not able to walk again. Since them Salome has been caring for her mother and sister. Salome needs tools, seed, fertilizers and water barrel to store water. Then she will be able to grow her own food in her family Garden. * I am returning to these remote villages on 15th November- 16th December. Please my dear friends, Pray for Salome. Lenti. She has never seen a Biscuit before. by TREVOR IRWIN
.Please Read this. This really was a special moment for me. I never knew that Lenti and no other children in this village had never seen a Biscuit/cookie before. She looked at it for almost 3 minutes and only began to eat it when she saw a member of our Mission staff eat hers. Lenti is a precious little girl who was very ill when she came to our Mission Centre. Medicines alone just could not save her life. We prayed and trusted God to heal her and he did. We provided lots of Love and High Protein cookies and Multi-vitamins. This gives me so much joy and drives me even harder to raise the funds to save and bless many more like Lenti. My Passion and inspiration is God given, and although I lack Finances, it has never stopped me blessing these children. This is a success story and with your help we can make many more. PS: The Medicines that many of you Sent to Brother Michael has now arrived at our Mission Center. A New DVD showing them being distributed and lots more scenes has just been made and I will hopefully show some clips on the Charity website soon. As/Is , no editing, Nice detail on larger view / 320 Views as of Nov 10/09 / Mute Swan, this is the male / Photo taken March 20/09 Brighton, ON / Info: nikon d80 , f 5.6 , ISO-400, -0.3 step, AP, no flash, 300mm lens, fl 180mm The mute swan is native to the Old World , introduced to North America and is still localized around the Great Lakes. The orange bill has a distinct black knob. Juveniles are darker, sandy coloured and acquire the white plumage in mid-winter along with a pink bill. Generally quiet with a variety of hisses and snorts and loud wingbeats in flight. They tend to swim with arched necks and often display their wings in a curve . From my personal observations this display is more prominent in springtime. /

Nobody who owns a Canon or a Nikon doesn’t know about the Canon vs Nikon debate, now they can be put head-to-head.
We will feature 6 Canon photographs and 6 Nikon photographs. Or we will select pictures purely because we love them and then award a bonus point to the camera make with the most features!
Each time the new features are put up, a new Group Avatar will be selected, and their picture will count as one point towards their camera make.
There will also be lots of challenges to win points, so GO GO GO!!
