I would climb to the top and look out once more across the vast expanse of the mountain itself—then further – across Butte Valley, the Butte Mountains, all the way to the Rubies to the west, and the Egan and Cherry Creek Ranges to the northeast. I would climb higher still – to see Steptoe Valley and the Schell Creek Mountains that disappear into the southeastern horizon. I would talk to the deer and the elk, and the wild horses that roam the foothills. (May I not live to see the day of no mustangs on this land!) I would drink from pristene springs, and sing along with the perpetual song of the creeks rushing to find the desert. If my last hours should happen to be in Fall, I would pick wild berries and pinon nuts. I would eat my fill beneath the quakies, without care for tomorrow’s consequences. Up there, I can see the whole wild world, much as it looked a century ago. Up there in the Wilderness, the cares of Humanity are far away. Let my last act be a shutter-click lightning-strike: a crack through which my spirit may slip from this world into the next. This photo was shot with my Minolta Maxxum 5D 315mm F13 1/250 with ISO 400. / I was ready for the Full Moon tonight. It has been raining off and on and cloudy here for the last couple of days. So I was hoping to get some shots with clouds in the sky along with the Full Moon. When I pulled up and parked it was still daylight and the Moon was barely visible with only one tiny cloud in the sky close to the Moon. Nothing to get excited about. It didn’t take long for the sky to change however. At first the Moon was very light with almost no color, kind of white to pale yellow. Then things started to change very fast as more and more clouds started to show up, at some times even completely covering the Moon. I thought well Quap! I drove all the way in town and have been sitting here for over an hour and now the darn thing is going to be all covered up. Then some of the clouds started to let the Moon show itself. I quickly called a friend of mine on my cell phone that lives about 80 miles away in Louisville. I told him that the moon was the most beautiful color and he better get outside and try and photo it while he can. He has a nice 500mm lens that translates into a 750mm on his Sony A 700. He said thanks for calling and he would check it out. Then the color of the moon and sky turned the most beautiful, if not strange color, I have seen, I did not change the color at all in this photo. I took so many photos tonight you can’t believe, but this was my favorite. / I have a Minolta Maxxum 7000 35mm that I bought in 1985 but because of the cost of film and printing I had not used for years and started with digital about 7 years ago. I feel like I have forgotten most of what I knew back then. I have a whole system of lenses and filters for that camera and only just found out that I can use all of my lenses on the Minolta two DSLRs or any of the Sony Alpha digital SLRs so I am very lucky that a friend of mine (the friend I called tonight to tell about the Full Moon) gave me this Minolta 5D about 3 weeks ago. What a difference it makes. Thanks Jim!
This is a mixed media collage’; all elements are handmade. It’s one of several mixed media collage works I did using recycled book pages. (during my Altered Book phase). I drew the crows and painted them on recycled thick paper, then cut them out and collaged them onto the base. The moon was made with walnut ink staining and acrylics over several layers of paper. The textured maple leaf is my own design. It is a layered papers, painted and stained leaf—mixed media. BEST VIEWED LARGE TO SEE DETAIL WORK. :) This art work has been FEATURED in the following groups: “Collage with Traditional Mediums” “Altered Art, Collage & Assemblage” “Animal Fantasy & Whimsy” “Once In A Blue Moon” “Shoot The Moon” group
