Why not, we take a break and a rest a while on benches, why not sheep? It must be a hard life eating all day long!

I took this candid shot back in 2007 in Nice while on holiday. It seemed so very poignant and pleasing to see I had to take the shot! / / MCN:C91FE-132B2-FBC4D

Another image from Torquay, this from a balcony overlooking the promenade delightfully named “Old Maid’s Perch”. This old maid’s feet must have been sore!

This is one of many ‘tired’ looking benches I found at the Clough State Park in Weare, NH. I don’t know much about this park (yet), but it is quite rundown and appears to have been abandoned which is a shame because it is situated on beautiful Everett Lake and has swimming with bathhouse facilities, boating and picnicing facilities and hiking trails. Now it looks to be used mostly by locals out for a stroll or to walk their dogs. Update, July 2008: I have recently learned that the reason this wonderful park looks as it does and is closed to public use is because the massive Mother’s Day Floods of 2006 devastated this park. Much of it was under water for several days. The costs to restore the park are quite high and not in the state’s budget so until such time as the necessary funds can be obtained, the park will remain officially closed. A true tragedy. Hopefully, one day relatively soon, it will reopen much to the delight of thousands of people, and animals, who regularly frequented this wonderful park. Enjoy! Len /

A bench along the shores of the Charles River in Boston, MA. Photographed during the Boston Children’s Hospital “Miles for Miracles” Walk in June, 2008. The buildings along Boston’s Storrow Drive are reflected in the water which I think add some interesting detail to the shot. This is actually part of a larger shot that I wasn’t happy with so rather than trashing it entirely, I chose to focus on this bench and cropped out the rest. I love the outcome and hope you do as well. Critiques are most welcome. Len /
If a photograph is worth a thousand words, a photograph of a bench can be worth a book. The Benches Group is the place for such artwork, where we share our representations and responses. It is for artwork of seating for 2 or more people, as opposed to a seat or a chair, as the emotions involved are looking at relationships – between each other and with our environment, especially an environment for a bench and its occupants created to last.
We are actively seeking new members, so if you’d like to join our benchmark group, please take time to read our Rules and Guidelines – they have been drafted to protect the integrity of the above-expressed purpose. Please note that we do not accept artwork without an accompanying Description.
The new group avater is the winner of our 2nd challenge for the most romantic bench…
