Topic: The Board Room - Critique / new into photography

Hi Danzzio,
First off got to it just made me smile broadly. just loved the muddy wet legs.

The texture of the mud in the foreground is good and hair just on the hooves. above that the image seems a little soft focused or may be how i see it? I find the rope or stalk a little distracting by the legs. As for artistic value, depends on who looks at it, we all see different things in images that either make is go oh wow or leave us unsure, but the next person that views it may have a totally different response. As to settings and things sorry cannot be much help on that front as just learning to and understanding it all.

Hope this helps and I look forward to seeing more of your images. : )

ISO 3200, 1600×1200, F4.5

This, for example, is the most recent one. Could something like this catch ones attention? Could it have any artistic value? And if so, could anyone offer suggestions regarding camera settings for this type of photos? For that matter any expertise would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Danzzio,
The best approach would be to post your image here, in the Critique forum, and ask a specific question like what was the idea behind the picture, what problems do you see and what advise are you looking for.
It’s hard to critique or give advise about all the pictures.
Here is the link on How to post images and create links

cheers

Hello I am Danzzio. I just started to take photos, not very sure about pictures I’ve taken. Could someone make some critique on my work? Cheers!

Well I have to admit I have no idea! I looked up “Bokeh” too and thought it just meant blurry, but I really like your interpretation of the small circles. Even if that isn’t right it sounds more like something worthy of a name to me haha. Either way, I think both of the photos above are truly exceptional!

thanks Motti for the link its starting to make a little more sense to me now so its not just the lights its anything in the background blurred so this image has it too.

Now after seeing your photos William I am really confused I thought it was just the little circles that people were calling bokeh but in your images I dont see any so its the the blur or the background image blurred or out of focus then? as for my image I had never even noticed it had the colored circles blurred out until I joined RB and started hearing of this bokeh and then I noticed it in one of mine hoping that I hadnt messed mine up thanks for your comments

Sue, bokeh translates to “blur.” I think your blur fits with the subject. In fact, it is of the best kind, since it enhances your subject matter.

Bokeh is not really bad or good, it just is.

My autumn leaves here has a lot of bokeh
My daisy among dasies here has different bokeh.

I like the backgroud you have with the critter. Most importantly, you would like it enough to post it. Nice capture.

This is such a big subject, but the image looks good to me, i would suggest you look at the following web site to give you an understanding of how complex a subject this could be. http://www.rickdenney.com/bokeh_test.htm
also the following web site. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/bokeh.htm.

I had no idea this word or affect even existed in the photography world I have seen it before in photos but had no idea it had a name and could be good or bad thats how much of a rookie I am. What I need to know is if the bokeh in my photo is the good or bad version and how one goes about knowing the difference thanks in advance for helping me out with this baffling technique.

Information does have to be included in your profile page from what I understand. I read yours, and the information seems to be far down in your narrative. It is possible that the hosts just didn’t read the whole thing. You should know too, from what I understand, the reasons for rejection of art to a group are generic messages that the hosts get to pick from when they reject a piece. Apparently, there are only so many of these comments to choose from.

Hi Mindy, thanks for that. I misunderstood. I thought it had to be included in my profile page, not with the actual photograph.
Thanks again
Rochelle

Hi there,
Just read your post, went and checked out your photograph, and I think what is missing is that they require something in your description of the photo that says how long you have been photographing,...or something like that…I see in your description, that there isn’t nothing that states what they require…
I don’t know, unless the rules have changed recently…
hope that helps…
cheers
Mindy

Topic: The Board Room - Critique / Please help me understand

Hi there,

I have recently submitted a photograph “Fennell Bay Jetty” and recieved a message (thanks for taking the time to do that too) saying it was rejected because it did not fit the guidelines.
I have read and re-read the rules and guidelines and I just don’t understand why it has been rejected. I was wondering if you could possibly shed some light for me please?
Thank you
Rochelle (aka froggyfriend)
