Located in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina on a former 19th century plantation, Kalmia Gardens is a 35-acre private botanical garden and historic house open to the public. The Thomas E. Hart House, built in 1820 with timber cut from the property, and surrounding gardens are on the National Register of Historic Places. Kalmia Gardens boasts a wide array of rhododendrons, camellias, azaleas, wisteria, tea-olives, dogwood and the Gardens’ namesake — Kalmia latifolia, the Mountain Laurel. It also features a daylily display garden recognized by the American Hemerocallis Society. Kalmia Gardens is part of the scenic S.C. Cotton Trail and is the gateway to the 796-acre Segars-McKinnon Heritage Preserve. This photo was taken with a Kodak Easyshare camera and edited with Dynamic-Photo HDR and Picasa. The information was copied from the Kalmia Gardens website. /
Fall leaves changing in Beaufort South Carolina, a wonderful myrid of colors. This is a picture I took at night with a flash attached last fall. I also have an abstracted version of this on the site. I wanted to give people the option of the non enhanced version as well.
enhanced digital photography of lake reflection
Looks like the pumpkin got tired and sat down for a rest. Or not. Taken near the Butterfly House at Cypress Gardens near Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Canon Digital Rebel, available heavily overcast afternoon daylight.
Taken at the Greenville Farmer’s Market
This is a picture is an edited version of a picture I posted a while ago that I took one day while hiking in the mountains of South Carolina. I came across this small town center that was covered in pumpkins. What a find in terms of festive photography! I love these pictures. They put me in such a great mood, ready to celebrate the upcoming holidays of Halloween and Thanksgiving! Ps. it makes a beautiful greeting card! Thanks for looking. Poinsett State Park, South Carolina, USA
Scanned from a print. The building is a machine shop in an industrial area near downtown Columbia, South Carolina. I took this very low-angle, middle-of-the-night shot by distant mercury vapor street lights. They create the eerie green cast on the metal siding, which I’ve left uncorrected. The interior of the building is lit by sodium vapor lamps, causing the contrasting reddish glow from inside. The fan is moving slowly during the long exposure. Pentax 6×7, color negative film, available light.
Turn the knob and make something happen. Or not. I found this intriguing panel in an abandoned cotton mill in the Olympia section of Columbia, South Carolina. Available heavily overcast late afternoon daylight. I added about 60 percent of a tonemapping filter to make the textures pop, and hand corrected the digital camera’s blue fringes at contrasty edges.
