These pylons are the sole remains of the old 200 meter long jetty built in 1860 to replace one that had proved too short and too low and of which even less remains today. Port Willunga was then a thriving port as the nearby Willunga slate quarries were operating in the 1860’s and 1870’s and also for the export of wheat, but quickly became redundant when the demand for slate declined. In 1914 a storm ripped out the middle of this newer jetty and then a another storm in 1915 washed away most of what the remained (sources 1 and 2 ). / South Australia, Australia / / (ref fotoWERNER 3H0911.2097) / Nikon D300 | Nikon 18-200VR / Featured in Beach, River and Lake Treasures group (19 November 2009) /

I discovered this fascinating work of art by Mother Nature on an icy winter day on the banks of Lake Kochel in the south of Bavaria, not far from Garmisch-Partenkirchen. These frozen icicles seemed to have been formed by the movement of the water on the lake. They hung in rows from reeds or sticks. There were more around the bank hanging like a curtain. This small river pond with a weir is situated in the middle of Uffing. The winter light made the colours and contrasts particularly attractive on that late December day. St. Agatha’s church is in the background. Parts of this building date back to 1480, although there may have been a church of some kind here since the 9th century. By the way, Adri mentioned the tower which is very typical for the southern parts of Bavaria, called an “onion tower” (Zwiebelturm) or “Welsh Bonnet” (welsche Haube) – “Welsch” meaning foreign or strange and not from the country of Wales:-) Location: Uffing am Staffelsee, Upper Bavaria, Germany. Nikon D200, Sigma 18-200mm. Postpro in CS4. Available in my Calendar Werdenfelser Lakes & Ponds, Bavaria (German text)
A guy that i had just met at the resort decided to throw out a line for some fishing. He had pulled in this lady fish, it was pretty big. Bout 15 minutes later this pelican just flew in and decided that he wanted the fish, as all this was happening the sun was also setting, it was just awesome timing all round really. enjoy
