I visited the Grampians National Park in Victoria two weeks after the major bushfire that decimated much of the park. The trip had been planned well before the fire went through and after speaking to the locals I decided to stick with my plans. The sight was shocking. Standing on a ridge the damage was obvious. Once green trees were now black posts and many had fallen. Paths that had once been hidden behind the dense scrub were now clearly visible. And all of this was repeated in every direction for as far as the eye could see. For me this was heartbreaking as this area is so beautiful and so full of wildlife. / So you can imagine my delight when I saw that, just a few short weeks after the fire, nature had already started the healing process. Everywhere I looked new growth was beginning to emerge from the bark of the burnt trees. Nikon D70s Tamron 18-200mm lens ISO 200 Winner in Bushfire Season! Challenge Australia! Taken the same evening as Little Oberon Sunset. An amazing evening in an amazing place. It was so dull and overcast at one stage I thought I’d set up my tent and cook my dinner before it got dark rather than spend it on the nearby knoll the light seemed so uninspiring. Glad I didn’t. For more shots from this area check out my Wilsons Promontory gallery. 10% of all profits go to the Wilderness Society
On a cold and cloudy day on my trip to Marysville through Black Spur I was mesmerised by the green of tree fern that appears everywhere among the burnt trees. I spotted this amazing view over looking Marysville town on the way down from Lake Mountain. I was trying to capture the mystical atmostphere of this forest that comes alive from within caused by the glowing green colour coming out from the rejuvanated tree fern.

Had a wonderful long weekend driving from Mansfield across the high country to Dargo. Some awesome 4 wheel driving, great camping spots, drop dead views and a few nice photo ops. We found this little shack on the Bairnsdale – Dargo road on the way home today. A nice little find. :-) Featured: Australian Travel Photography and Writing Nikon D700, Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 lens, 1/100 sec @ f/11, ISO 200, 31mm /

The Ettamogah Pub is the most photographed pub in the world! Built in 1989, the word “ettamogah” is Aboriginal for “place of good drink!” Now one of Queensland’s leading tourist attractions it stands at an impressive 18m in height. Most of the furniture inside the pub was built from trees cleared from the actual site. In the cartoon, the theory is that this 1927 Chevy truck was washed / on top of the bright red roof in the floods of 1946 and none of the regulars could be bothered to get it down. /
The rugged West coast of Tasmania, Australias island state, is evident here. Under a dark and broody sky, the strong Westerly winds drive a menacing sea hard onto the rocks, not far from a little shack community known as The Sarah Anne. Brunswick Street has been classified by the National Trust (yes the entire street!). I captured this while seated across the road in a cafe having coffee. Using my Canon G10 Powershot at f4.0 1/800 ISO 80 in Canon RAW I have been able to extract the colours and texture of this classic building minus cars which tend to park there.
