Topic: Group News / 120526 features The expression “I’m only human” is usually offered as an apology, when it should be given as a statement of pride. I hope this week’s fascinating, moving and even funny works prove my point. Please join me in congratulating the artists who provided these wonderful works of art. Topic: Group News / Arghhhh! Nasty nagging message time Hello everyone, I swore I would never stoop to this as a group host: the nasty reminder of group rules, but it looks like I must break my oath. Works are not moderated in our group because I believe it should practice what it preaches. The group does, however, have a clear aim and guidelines as to how to achieve them. “Courtesy” and “enquiry” come to mind. Some members have recently started dumping any information they want to share in general in this group. Their “works” have been removed; they have been informed why and warned of the consequences of repeat offending. Some ideologies would have pronounced anathemas or fatwas or fired up the stake. You lot get the message I’ve never wanted to write. Please don’t make me have to write another or re-introduce moderating. arghhhh!and be well, Stéfan |

Topic: Group News / New swearing challenge It’s been claimed – wrongly, I believe – that atheists can’t swear convincingly. Screaming “Oh, second law of thermodynamics!” when you stub your toe doesn’t quite have the same force as picking on a deity, despite being more truthful. I think we can do better, so I’ve created a new challenge to prove that atheists swear just as well as our benighted brothers and sisters. Give it your best shot on a tee, in an artwork or a journal post. The challenge begins in one week. #!***§! |

Topic: Group News / Group news / March 2012 Hi Everyone, I’m going to implement a couple of changes and see how they pan out. 1) I’m adding the “and Humanism” part to our group’s name and amending the tag line. I think it is important to embrace a ‘positive’ approach. The British Humanist Society’s ideals closely match this group’s, although there is absolutely no affiliation with them. 2) In keeping with the ideal of letting people do what they want, I’m removing the need to moderate works. This is an experiment. If I find members cannot comply with the basic rules of courtesy by keeping to three submissions at a time (and thus not flood the gallery with their work), I will politely warn offenders once and then remove them from the group if they persist. If this experiment fails, we’ll go back to the status quo ante. 3) I would be very happy to co-host this group with someone who has fresh ideas. Any takers? In the meantime, be well and happy. Cheers, Stéfan |

Topic: Group News / 01/12 - January features and news OK, so a 16th-century pope decided we’d start years at a ridiculous time, but that won’t stop me from wishing you all a happy new one and invite you to enjoy the features for January. Hint for next month’s features: February is Valentine’s Day month. I’ll be looking for something gooey and atheistic. It’s also a month to remind us that we can’t count, so there’ll be a challenge with a prize 366 times better than the ordinary variety handed out. Guess when the voting starts and ends… in the meantime, I wish you all a happy, fulfilling and healthy 2012. All the best, Stéfan |

Topic: Group News / Challenge winner Congrats, Red! No Humbug about it… I’m just about ready to dive into my godless, Jesus-less Christmas head first. Religion was never an issue in our family, & we keep Christmas better than anyone!! And like Bad Cop/Good Cop, Bad Santa has his place. Love it. It has the kind of Jolly Roger look that Captain Jack Sparrow might have used on his flag. Happy times, all. |

Topic: Group News / Challenge winner We’ve had some suitably cynical Season’s Greetings cards in our challenge, but the winner takes the biscuit, so please give red addiction a big round of virtual applause for her witty take on Christmas:
If the office Christmas party hasn’t taken its toll, don’t forget to console the other talented contributors. In the meantime, however irritating the tinsel, however jarring the carols, however obnoxious the mistletoe-touting dweeb, however harrowing the prospect of the in-laws staying over, I do hope you get through these trying times with humour, warmth and affection. And if you don’t: Bah, humbug! |

Topic: Group News / Another challenge reminder Ho Ho Ho! If that makes you shiver, if you groan at “Seasons Greetings” and foam at Made-In-China decorations and if the best thing Christmas can offer is a highly unprofessional drunken grope at the office party, you can get your own back with the Atheist Seasonal Greetings Card Challenge which is now open. It’s a cash prize challenge and mostly a chance to help ensure the survival of all of us who have to grit our teeth till January. Start decking things with boughs of all things ending in -olly. |

Topic: Group News / Challenge Reminder... Having strung up Santa, I have absolutely no scruples about nagging you to enter our latest competition, the Atheist Season’s Greetings Challenge, which opens in just over a week. This is a short challenge and works must already be in the group, so hurry up and get creative. Ho ho ho. Stéfan |
