Nelson Mandela – The Man, The Legacy

• African Art at Heart would like to join in the worldwide celebrations by wishing Madiba a happy 91st birthday.
  *This challenge is to give our members a chance to create a special commemorative artwork depicting Nelson Mandela & what he stands for.
• You may enter previous art as well. * Any medium is allowed, but not photos or computer generated images.
• If you are not sure, please feel free to ask.

• *To millions of people around the globe, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela is one of the most revered figures of the 20th century.

• As Madiba turns 91 on Saturday (19 July 2009), his Foundation and family are encouraging service to the community by asking people to give 67 minutes of their time to help less fortunate people.

• In an effort to celebrate the legacy of former President Nelson Mandela, 46664 and the Nelson Mandela Foundation launched Mandela Day to be held on his birthday each year, July 18.

• Mandela Day is an annual celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and a global call to action for people to recognise their individual power to make an imprint and change the world around them.*
• _ A Mandela coin and stamp have been launched, the publishing of a comic book has been announced and a campaign to sell gold, platinum and silver 46664 wrist bangles has taken off._

• Also, the Nelson Mandela Foundation had announced it would launch a 240-page coffee-table book commemorating the first post-apartheid president’s contribution to history.
