I wish there was oil in Zimbabwe...

There must not be any oil in Zimbabwe, otherwise we’d have helped by now.

It just makes me very sad and incredibly angry. How can we justify the invasion of Iraq because ‘we’ got rid of Saddam, but not even suggest the removal of Mugabe because of the lack of personal gain?

I’m… lost for more words.

I agree with your sentiments. As a neighbouring country South Africa has an even greater moral obligation to intervene. We have thousands of refugees crossing our border from Zimbabwe and our leaders seem SO reluctant to do anything beyond the mumbling of platitudes and ineffectual phrases such as “the respective leaders should sit down and dicuss their differences…” – or words to that effect (Mbeki, yesterday). A bit difficult when one of the leaders is in fear of his life and sheltering in the Dutch Embassy! The situation is dire. One wonders how much further it will degenerate before any intervention occurs? Ann – South Africa.

thank you for your comments from a country closer. we don’t hear, in australia, how this effects and doesn’t effect zimbabwe’s neighbours, let alone what they’re doing about it. how do you put an end to a 30 year regime, when in principle you don’t agree with conflict.

unfortunately i’m one of those who complain, but don’t have any answers of my own.

at a pub in melbourne australia last week i met a man who plays cricket for zimbabwe. he and his team should have been in england playing a test series against them, but because of sanctions placed on anything zimbabwean by the british government, they are holidaying in australia for three weeks instead.

by the way… zimbabweans who play sport for their country are not allowed to vote.

Since Morgan Tsvangirai was protected by the Dutch Embassy, we in the Netherlands got a news overload on the situation in Zimbabwe.
Did you know that in 2008 Zimbabwe has had an inflation of 9 million percent? Unbelievable… Yet the world just sits and watches the show. With already a quarter of it’s inhabitants seeking refuge elsewhere this should be a much bigger deal to the rest of the world than it is now.
Lets all hope for the best, it’s the only thing we can do.

Besides making protest shirt then. ;-)
