Please look after us by Marnie Kirkness
Simple and effective image to show the vulnerability of the environment. We need to care and respect the environment or it will fade. This image could be a reminder for the world’s individuals to take an active role in considering the environmental impact of their actions. There is hope though, for there is coloured life in the branch. (This image was created simply by creating a black/white mask over the original photo in PS3)

Oil Kills by Frank Stillitano
Our society’s addiction to oil and oil based products is threatening the human race. Corporate greed is compromising human rights and the environment. Things must change before it’s too late. This t-shirt is designed to quickly communicate the relationship between oil consumption and human suffering. The image of a hand gun and the use of the colour red represents blood and human suffering (so I would recommend a red t-shirt, but it still works on other colours). The fuel pump nozzle and use of black represents oil and petrol consumption. The link between the two items is the ‘trigger’, each of which is designed to be levered by the human finger.

Earth tree by yanmos
Wear your awareness + art(ing) your life… other t-shirts / Global warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation. / Global average air temperature near the Earth’s surface rose 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the past century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes, “most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in ttp://anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations,” which leads to warming of the surface and lower atmosphere by increasing the greenhouse effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes have probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950, but a small cooling effect since 1950. These basic conclusions have been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries. The American Association of Petroleum Geologists is the only scientific society that rejects these conclusions. A few individual scientists disagree with some of the main conclusions of the IPCC. / Climate models referenced by the IPCC project that global surface temperatures are likely to increase by 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) between 1990 and 2100. The range of values reflects the use of differing scenarios of future greenhouse gas emissions and results of models with differences in climate sensitivity. Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming and sea level rise are expected to continue for more than a millennium even if greenhouse gas levels are stabilized. This reflects the large heat capacity of the oceans. / An increase in global temperatures continues to result in other changes, including sea level rise, increased intensity of extreme weather events, and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation resulting in floods and drought. Other effects include changes in agricultural yields, glacier retreat, reduced summer streamflows, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors. / Remaining scientific uncertainties include the exact degree of climate change expected in the future, and how changes will vary from region to region around the globe. There is ongoing political and public debate on a world scale regarding what, if any, action should be taken to reduce or reverse future warming or to adapt to its expected consequences. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol, aimed at combating greenhouse gas emissions. Source wikipedia. detail /

Vote Green.. by Andy Mercer
Amazing what you find growing in the garden. Our area was the first in the country to elect “green” councillors.. they came in on their bikes.. wearing big woolly jumpers. I’ve no idea what they stand for.. but any party that advocates primary colours gets my vote ;) I will probably vote “red” next time and “blue” the time after that. In the early days of green politics they supported legalising cannabis.. (maybe they still do) when my conservative mother in law went to vote she got it wrong and voted to legalise cannabis.. needless to say we have been reminding her about it ever since. I am also the founder of the “beige” party, our main policy is the total elimination of all none beige colours. Beige is the future. Beige will rule the world… we’ve nearly won on that already. Our deadly enemy is jade.. what use is the colour jade to anyone ? Come the revolution.. all jade will be banned. Maybe I should get out more.

After being blown away by the Artists for Wetlands exhibition today, thought I’d help promote Birds Australia Did you know that you share your neighbourhood with some very important visitors? / These are the shorebirds, a group of long legged wading birds that usually feed in shallow water or mudflats. Some species of shorebird fly here all the way from Siberia to spend the summer, some can be found all year round and may even breed here if the conditions are right…. Shorebirds make pretty good neighbours and are fairly easy to get along with – they even help reduce the number of annoying bugs in your neighbourhood as they like to feed on insects and their larvae. Living out in the open wetlands, shorebirds can’t duck for cover whenever danger approaches. They always have to be on the lookout and will take to the air whenever they think a threat is approaching, giving them less time to feed and build up strength to survive. (from the Birds Australia pamphlet, Getting Along with your Shorebird Neighbours) If you’re in the Geelong/Melbourne neighbourhood, there’s more artistic environmental goodness this weekend: Wetland Connections Two/Too / Uniting Church Hall, Cnr Stokes and Hesse Streets, Queenscliff / May 16-18, 2008 / A weekend of exhibitions, concert and art auction

Child's Play by rubyred
Child’s Play – Think Again / The AK-47 Russian automatic rifle designed in 1947, is amongst the most smuggled weapons of recent times, finding its way to conflicts in the Balkans, Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia. / In countries like Rwanda, Mozambique, Congo and Ethiopia this weapon was used by up to 100,000 children in armed conflict in 2005. Today it is estimated that there are between 200,000-300,000 children serving as soldiers for rebel groups and government forces in current armed conflicts. / Source – Human Rights Watch Selected other RubyRed shirts: / / /

Kill Your Television by Vinko
It’s even easier to hate your TV when you know it hates you. How does it hate you? / It gives you false choices – change the channel and you get the same shite – different station. It makes you feel inferior because you don’t have what the cool people have, or you don’t look like the cool people do. You’re made to feel like you should buy stuff to be an upstanding citizen, to fit in, to keep up with wherever the hell society is going. TV loves to dumb it down. YOU are the lowest common denominator. How to stop it? / Luckily televisions aren’t that smart and they all come with an OFF switch. Use it. Save your brain. Save your family. Save humanity.

Help Sichuan! by BrainCandy
I did this simple T in order to collect money for the rebuilding of schools in Sichuan. / I have spent some time in Deyang last year teaching, and found this to be a life changing experience. / With all things happening in China, we tend to forget that an average person has nothing to do with big politics, yet gets hit the most when a disaster happens. / Please buy a T and 100% of the proceeds and the names of all buyers will be passed directly to the effort of rebuilding Sichuan schools. The Writing reads “Help Si Chuan” (yuan zhu Si Chuan).
