FEATURED ARTIST FOR MAY 2010 Moshe Cohen

|
Here is featured artist as Selected by Anna Shaw at Altered by Design for the month of May. I am so excited that the talented Moshe Cohen has agreed to be our Featured Artist here on Altered By Design He has such talent with his photography, digital art and writing. Moshe lives in Israel, and his photographs give a unique insight into his country and his people. More recently Moshe has moved into digital art. His skills are evident when you look at his work. Each image is alive with ideas and vitality. His compositions are always strong, often surreal and always immaculately crafted. Here Moshe talks about himself and his work; I am 50 years old. I am married to Orna , she is a painter and some of her paintings are showed on RedBubble. About 20 years ago I took a few photography courses. I couldn’t continue with photography because I had no time (work etc.), I actually didn’t have anything to say. About 2 years ago I took 2 courses in photography again. I enjoyed it so much and searched for a place I can show my work and sell, that’s how I found RedBubble. I started to use Photoshop to do simple things like selective color and selective focus, eventually I started to create digital art. It enables me to protray my ideas in a visual way, and being able to do this is what excites me the most. A fine example is Demons From The Past Before I start a new work, I have a title, and then I think how to show it visually. Actually the writing is new for me, and although I love it, it is the art that brings it to a new higher level. I consider the writing an integral part of the art work. On the visual side you are one of the main influences the second is Patrick Desmet. On the mental side, I read a lot of philosophical and mystical writings mostly in the internet. The theme that runs through my work are The way – as a means to progress. My work almost always deals with spiritual issues. I found it impossible to choose just one work that I most liked. I have three particular favourites… "Demons from the past’ which you can see above, and these two…
I love the images that Moshe has chosen as his favourites. Each one so rich in symbolism. I also love the striking colours and the purity of the compositions. These are just some of my favourites…
Please add your favourites too. |

Thank you so much Sue. “The time is a good teacher, but he kills his students” Louis Hector Berlioz, French composer We all have a sense of time but can’t explain when asked, what is time? Some theories, most notably special and general relativity, suggest that suitable geometries of spacetime, or certain types of motion in space, may allow time travel into the past and future. Concepts that aid such understanding include the closed timelike curve. “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven– In general, the Judaeo-Christian concept, based on the Bible, is that time is linear, with a beginning, the act of creation by God. The Christian view assumes also an end, the eschaton, expected to happen when Jesus returns to earth in the Second Coming to judge the living and the dead. This will be the consummation of the world and time. St Augustine’s City of God was the first developed application of this concept to world history. The Christian view is that God is uncreated and eternal so that He and the supernatural world are outside time and exist in eternity. Ancient cultures such as Incan, Mayan, Hopi, and other Native American Tribes, plus the Babylonian, Ancient Greek, Hindu, Buddhist, Jainist, and others have a concept of a wheel of time, that regards time as cyclical and quantic consisting of repeating ages that happen to every being of the Universe between birth and extinction. What do you think? |
