While hiking in McDowell Creek County Park, we came upon this tree that had become a mushroom farm. Mushrooms were growing one on top of each other, like a fungi high rise apartment complex. They were taking over the side of the tree at just about eye level, very convenient for a photo shoot. / McDowell Park is temperate rain forest in central Oregon, to the west of the Cascade mountain range. A truly beautiful place, with three waterfalls and plenty of wonderful foliage.

This scene caught my eye, of a pumpkin patch near a barn. Very lovely.
I have never seen, in all my years as a “sky watcher”, anything quite like these end-to-end rainbows, up high in the sky. The phenomenon is called Tangent Arcs, and form when cirrus clouds have well developed columnar ice crystals drifting with their long axes almost horizontal. The photo was taken from the jetty in Port Orford, Oregon as a Pacific storm was approaching from the south. Mt Humbug can be seen at the bottom-center of the image. Nikon D700, 20 mm f/2.8 D Lens / f/10.0, 1/400th Second, ISO 200 This photo was featured on the front page of The Curry County Reporter on November 18, 2009.

Opened in 1932, the bridge is 619 feet long and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. This image was taken on September 4th, 2007, using a Nikon D80 DSLR fitted with a Sigma 18-50 mm tele/zoom lens set at 50 mm. ISO 125, f /8.0, 1/30 second.
This one drop of water was hanging from a petal. / A neightbor’s pink rhododendron that is now higher than our fence is also growing through it for us to enjoy. One morning I was out there early enough to see that all over the buds and petals were rain drops with the sun shining on them. The small town of Cottage Grove is where my home is in Western Oregon and the rhododendrons grow very well here.

Taken on the Cascade Lakes Highway near Mt. Bachelor Oregon. This highway originally named Century Drive because of its 100 mile length. Recent years the drive has been shortened to 66 miles. I have taken this drive many times and today was still awestruck by the brilliant beauty of the lakes and mountains. Camera- Olympus SP 590Z / Setting-AV-4.4 / SP-1/500 / ISO- 64 / / MT. WASHINGTON /

This picture of Mt. Hood was taken during a mid-June, 2009 flight. It was amazing to me how much snow was still left on the mountain that time of year, as well as how much was left on the mountain’s flanks.
