Perth at sunrise
Sunrise in Yanghuo, Guilin, China. Yangshuo is an enchanting destination nestled on the banks of the Li River surrounded by spectacular limestone mountains. For centuries painters, poets and philosophers have been to drawn to this majestic location. It was one of my favorite Nihonga, or Traditional Japanese Painting, artists artwork from his visit here that inspired me to go as well. When I was out in this field shooting the sunrise, I thought to myself, if only everyone could fall in love with nature, there would be no room for war and hatred in the world. As I was running around over the saturated grass, with saturated shoes, I forgot all my troubles as this magical moment happened. We were on our way to the Bunya Mountains National Park. When I returned to the car, reality kicked in, I had saturated shoes, and no spare ones!! It must have looked funny, socks jammed in the rear windows, and the shoes wedged in the roof racks to dry… Scotch Thistle, in a cattle field, just outside Kilcoy, Queensland, Australia. Saskatoon was my home for 6 years. I took some nice photos with my old point-and-shoot during that time. This photo was taken at The Berry Barn and Farm landscape just outside the city of Saskatoon. View of South Saskatchewan River. Spring 2007. The Accent has been nominated for the prestigous Pay it Forward Group by Kreative Kapture / This is what she had to say about the image - “I have a few favorites, not a lot so far, as SO many are great photos here on redbubble that I only favorite EXTREME fav’s of mine. / With this photo, however, I keep returning to this one to gaze at it. / To have the soft grey blue of clouds and sky, and soft water – all so natural – and then the contrast of the bright orderly flowers is quite the eye catcher. / Especially taken on the prairies! I totally love this photo.”

This also was taken on Wednesday afternoon when I took a walk down the beach. I sat for about an hour taking pictures. It amazes me everyday that I am so lucky to live here.

After yesterday’s 8 hour hike down to Vera Falls and back, I was determined to redeem the photographic weekend by returning to an old favourite to test the new lens a bit better. Upon limping down the stairs to the beach I faced the lowest tide there I had seen to date. The light was crap, being mid-afternoon, but the cloudage was happening, so I persevered. The CZ came good, the little devil. As did the Singh-Ray, an interesting piece of kit I must say. This image is of basically the same subject as this one, only taken nearer the front of the tunnel: Canon EOS 5D Mark II / Carl Zeiss Distagon T ZE 21mm f2.8 Lens / Singh-Ray Vari-ND Filter and hand-held Lee 0.9 Hard Grad ND Filter / ISO: 50 / Aperture: f9 / Speed: 3.2 seconds / Focus: Manual / Image: Single RAW file, shot in monochrome / Location: Turimetta Beach, Sydney Best viewed large

Again, from my room window in Egypt but a bit later. I saw the boat sail across and the colours from the sunset were still amazing so I had to take it.
My second picture of the sunset in Egypt. This one was out of my bedroom window :-)

For most people, the margin between earth and sky is little more than a line we call the horizon. But for many an artist, that place where Mother Earth caresses the sky is nothing short of a miracle. It’s ordinary yet magical. It’s dreary yet intriguing. It’s a harmonious contrast of color. It’s an explosion of life reaching up toward a seemingly lifeless cosmos. It’s the residence of both calmness and calamity. If you love to capture this natural boundary and expose its beauty for all to enjoy, then please feel free to join us and share in the celebration. Welcome to Horizons.
