Done in ultra contrast HDR. The camera was set on the rail, and not much attention was paid to the alignment of the trees and the rail until I put it on my computer and viewed it full size. The trees line up perfectly and reflect quite nicely on the smooth shiny steel of the rail. Salvia coccinea Scarlet Salvia, Scarlet Sage is a flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae. It is native from Mexico north to the southeastern United States but is widely cultivated as an ornamental. Its tubular, bright red flowers are pollinated by hummingbirds. In the garden, the species is frost tender and usually grown as an annual. Flowers are produced from as early as February in frost-free climates through frost in colder areas. It grows best with plenty of sun and rich, well-drained soils. This charming plant may be massed together as a tall ground cover. It also makes a nice red display in a perennial border in full sun. Plant it among other herbaceous perennials for a nice display of soft, red flowers borne terminally on erect stems. Salvia will perform well in full sun, partial shade, or full shade; however, flowering is reduced in partial shade. It prefers a moist, well-drained soil and, unlike many flowering bedding plants, is very drought tolerant. Native salvia is at its best during the hottest summer months when other flowering plants may suffer from the heat. To maintain a neat-looking landscape, cut it back at the end of the year after it finishes flowering and foliage begins to die. Although this is not necessary for good growth or survival of the plant, it keeps the garden looking neater. Part of my 2:14am series A regular thought occurred; Sometimes its easier to think when the rest of the population is in the other world, the Dream world. The numbness of the cold is also a helpful mystery. Although as I thought about the Dreaming people living their other lives I envied them, If only I could sleep forever and stay as my other self for the rest of my eternity, that way my problems are lifted and a whole set of new problems can emerge, Change is good no matter how bad it may seem. Without this change we can not die, but we can not live without it. INTERVIEW WITH JESS WHITE – WINNER OF THE BRIGHT & SHINY CHALLENGE
1. What sparked your interest in art?
My mother, she was also very involved in the art world. I found her work to be a great inspiration when I was younger, I wished to follow in her artistic footsteps.
2. How long have you been creating for?
I’ve always been involved with art, mostly for fun, but only recently (in the last two or three years) have I really decided to make it a big part of my life and try to get into some professional work.
3. What are your inspirations and aspirations?
As I stated earlier, my mother was a huge inspiration for me, when she passed away I was given alot of her artworks, and I always found them inspiring. As for apirations, I’d just love other people to appreciate my work as much as I enjoy making it. It would be wonderful to one day be well recognised, and be able to earn a living from my art.
4. Where do you see yourself artistically in 5 years time?
Hopefully working as a full time, self employed photographer. Earning a living from my art, doing what I love.
5. What is your most favoured piece of work and why?
I’d have to say Galaxy. Even though it’s quite old, I just love the way it all came together in the end. While it began only as experemental work, it worked surprisingly well and turned out to be a big hit. (:
Thanks very much to Jess for taking the time to answer these questions. I hope this gives everyone a bit more insight into Jess’ artistic side. Visit Jess’ portfolio here above, in the featured member section.
