To give you an idea of scale on those roots – this old man of the forest (300+ yrs old) – made an ideal obstacle course for this little girl. This tree has managed to survive the growth of the city and is pretty much close to the center of Bangalore.

Done in ultra contrast HDR. The camera was set on the rail, and not much attention was paid to the alignment of the trees and the rail until I put it on my computer and viewed it full size. The trees line up perfectly and reflect quite nicely on the smooth shiny steel of the rail. St Patrick’s Cathedral is the mother church of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne. The Centenary of its official opening and Consecration was marked in 1997; however, the first Mass was celebrated on the site in February 1858 in a former partially completed church, some of which was incorporated into the south aisle of the present building. By 1868, the completed nave of the Cathedral first served the needs of the community for regular worship and prayer. Designed by William Wardell, St Patrick’s is regarded internationally as the finest ecclesiastical building in Australia and a pre-eminent example of the Gothic Revival style. The austere facade gives little hint of the glorious interior with its ethereal golden light of mesmerising beauty. The Cathedral’s highly regarded organ and exceptional acoustics ensure its popularity with leading musicians and choral groups, as a favoured setting for concerts of sacred music. The splendid ambulatory and chapels, which partially encircle the sanctuary, provide space for occasional exhibitions. St Michael’s is a unique church in the heart of the city. It is not only unique for its relevant, contemporary preaching, but for its unusual architecture. The church externally is one of Melbourne’s landmarks. Internally, everyone is struck by its unusual quiet beauty. The bicentennial windows are a rare expression of visual theology – the largest display of existential-religious stained glass in the Southern Hemisphere. It is December 1982 and Jo has spent the first 17 years of her life under parent’s rules. Her parents have her life mapped out for her: career as an accountant, marry a nice boy and graze with the other sheep. But, now she had finished her HSC, Jo wants to follow her passion—to be a mechanic. Jo’s best friends are her kelpie dog, Max, and Bev, her lively seventy year old Nanna who exercises to Duran Duran in her lime green legwarmers. With Nanna’s encouragement, Jo applies, via good old-fashioned snail mail, for a job as a mechanic in a small Victorian country town. Jo gets the job but forgets to mention she is a girl. Jo is amused when she arrives in Chickdale. The some-what wacky town is having a Chookfest, where the locals dress up as chickens and party. Jo meets her chauvinistic boss Mr Benson, who after some nagging by the town’s folk, gets the job and is on two weeks trial. The story follows Jo’s experiences at trade school, her passion for life and her love for an old Dodge. This Aussie novel is a good read for anyone from a teenager to a pensioner!! 13-y-o Trent reading a copy of Love is a ‘66 Phoenix / Click here to order book

INTERVIEW WITH JESS WHITE – WINNER OF THE BRIGHT & SHINY CHALLENGE
1. What sparked your interest in art?
My mother, she was also very involved in the art world. I found her work to be a great inspiration when I was younger, I wished to follow in her artistic footsteps.
2. How long have you been creating for?
I’ve always been involved with art, mostly for fun, but only recently (in the last two or three years) have I really decided to make it a big part of my life and try to get into some professional work.
3. What are your inspirations and aspirations?
As I stated earlier, my mother was a huge inspiration for me, when she passed away I was given alot of her artworks, and I always found them inspiring. As for apirations, I’d just love other people to appreciate my work as much as I enjoy making it. It would be wonderful to one day be well recognised, and be able to earn a living from my art.
4. Where do you see yourself artistically in 5 years time?
Hopefully working as a full time, self employed photographer. Earning a living from my art, doing what I love.
5. What is your most favoured piece of work and why?
I’d have to say Galaxy. Even though it’s quite old, I just love the way it all came together in the end. While it began only as experemental work, it worked surprisingly well and turned out to be a big hit. (:
Thanks very much to Jess for taking the time to answer these questions. I hope this gives everyone a bit more insight into Jess’ artistic side. Visit Jess’ portfolio here above, in the featured member section.
