Sun-Dial peak in the upper Wasatch mountains, Utah. This is a hike I’ve been wanting to do for awhile, and today I got off early from work and went for it. I either seriously overestimated my physical prowess, or underestimated the difficulty of this hike because by the time I reached the lake, I was happy to be alive. I thought about turning back more than once, but the peak in the distance kept me going. Finally I arrived and shot as I nervously watched the sky change in front of me as the clouds began to look more and more ominous. After what I thought was a great shoot I started to head down. Not more than 5 minutes from leaving the top I heard a ground shaking thunder sweep down the valley. I’ve been in high alpine lightning storms and I wasn’t the least bit pleased to be in another one. After I saw a flash of lighting it occurred to me I had an aluminum tripod sticking out the back of my pack. “Aluminum is an excellent electricity conductor” was the recurring thought in my mind as lighting seemed to strike all around me and rain drenched everything. 7 miles later, after a hair raising run/jog/scramble down, I finally arrived at my car strangely thankful to be alive. I dunno, I’ve seen lightning strike close and the stuff scares the hell out of me. That was my Wednesday adventure, and this shot represents the fruits of my labor. Canon 5D. 24-105mm. HDR. Circ pol.

Garden Of The Gods, Manitou Springs, Colorado As hard as it is to express how one feels when standing in such a spot I shall try to sum it all up in one word. “Spiritual”. For many years the Native American’s have considered this place sacred, and one easily understands when visiting here. There simple is, no where else like it. This was quite a morning I had down here, with some very fresh snow the evening before, giving way to ultra clear skies and very pure air…Pikes Peak is in the distance. Mesa Arch, in Canyonlands National Park, Utah, faces east and is a perfect location for a dramatic sunrise image. The clouds blocked the horizon at sunrise, but my patience was rewarded when the sun suddenly broke through a small gap in the clouds for a brief moment.
Morning visit to the Garden of the Gods. What a beautiful park outside of Colorado Springs. It’s a place where Red Rocks jet up out of the ground. Absolutely Beautiful. This picture was taken from the V of these tree’s that twist oddly. I don’t know the name of these trees, hopefully someone who is actually from this area of the country can help me out with the name. Petroglyph National Monument protects a variety of cultural and natural resources including volcanos, archeological sites and an estimated 20,000 carved images. Many of the images are recognizable as animals, people, brands and crosses; others are more complex. These images are inseparable from the cultural landscape, the spirits of the people who created, and who appreciate them. Though time, some have used this area as target practice and thereby destroying or damaging these ancient carvings. This is one such incident that cannot be undone. Preserving our cultural heritage is as important as preserving the environment in other ways. Canon EOS 400 / Canon 18-55mm lens
