Date: 2009 / Technique: Oil on canvas / Size: F30 (91×72.5 cm) I’ve always been fascinated by astronomy, space, the universe, etc., and one book in particular; ‘Cosmos’ by Carl Sagan, has always been a favourite. I’m not sure about the paperback, but the hard cover version was filled with paintings of various artist’s (notably Adolf Schaller and Don Davis) impressions, of other worlds and galaxies that always mesmerized me. Here’s my first try at this genre with a vision of Earth in the far future. / A few billion years from now, our Sun will leave the main sequence and begin to evolve into a red giant. Long before it completes this transition, and eventually completely engulfs our planet, all life on Earth will be extinguished as the oceans evaporate and the atmosphere escapes into space. / Will humanity survive? If so we’ll need to evolve and adapt into beings completely different from what we are now.
Could this be the surface of Iapetus, the mysterious moon of Saturn. Most of its surface is shrouded in darkness so what it looks like, for the time being, is up to the imagination. / Most of Saturn’s moons are icebound but I thought a little water wouldn’t go astray. As for the red colouring well a bit of poetic licence. Planetscape created in Artmatic Voyager. Moons created in Bryce 6 and Saturn itself a big thank you to NASA/JPL. / I must say that I have been experimenting for a long time to create real-looking Saturn rings but I have never been happy with my attempts so far.

Was it a meteor strike? Someone mining? No one seems to know what caused this crater, but it’s listed as one of the places to view on the Galactic Tour of Norsis Major. / Featured in Alien Worlds and Landscapes. Thank you! :-)
Diaschylucius Major, third planet of the Amygdal Galaxy in the Eleventh System, with its three suns, only the distant one is shown in this image, a deadly little planet – toxic atmosphere, nothing edible, no vegetation and high radiation. But the strange coloured rock formations are a feature. Planet of no strategic interest and terraforming would be futile. / Created in Artmatic Voyager with added elements created in Bryce 6/DAZ and Photoshop CS2. / Criticism always welcome.

It was on Midnight, that Magnus Hawson came closest to ending his explorations early in his career. Deciding to witness, first hand, the collision between a giant meteor and a terrestrial planet, Magnus cut his timing a little short and was lucky to escape the atmospheric firestorm. Detail 2000sq pixels . . . / Created and rendered in ArtMaticPro. Additional effects added in Photoshop . . .
There’s a storm coming. . . An untouched ArtMaticVoyager render. . .
In the histories of ancient lighthouses a number stand out more than others, such is the light “Qualar’s Sun” on the northern coast of Santo. Built in the 2nd century by cosmo-technician Jolas Qualar, it was a marvel of the age. / Qualar used solar energy from the second sun he created in the night sky to power the disc that seemed to float above the bronze tower. The light itself could be seen from the moon and even ships entering the system knew instantly where the planet Nippseen spun in relation to the other planets and satellites in the system. / Of course there always seem to be a flaws in great works, the flaw in this one came about when Qualar died in a lab. explosion, taking with him the secret of his sun which even then was dimming. The light from the disc continued to glow for about 200 years, and then gradually diminished until finally going dark and no amount of technology as being able to make it work since, although many have tried. / And so here it sits on above the Endless Sea, now its just an oddity, and the sun he created just hangs in space, slowly dying. ‘excerpt from “Ancient Lighthouses of the Milky Way Galaxy” 24th edition
I was heading back home after a good day of fishing, I just wanted to be home with good food and a warm fire. But coming down the trail I got that feeling I sometimes get on cold nights like this. Its just one of those simple things we tend to forget in our busy lives. / I powered down the hover, turned off the lights, sat back and was rewarded with probably the greatest view on any world. A cold clear night, hardly any breeze, the sea like glass and the Dragons Eye Nebulas riding the sky with a backdrop of what looked like a billion stars. / Sometimes its those little things that have the greatest impact on you, and its times like this that let us know just how insignificant we really are in the vastness of space. So remember that feeling on those crisp nights, just stop and take in the night sky on whatever world you are, feel the peace ….........in the still of the night.

”... and what if there were two / around a fairer sun?” ........... ( r.e.m.) Either there had been a major glitch in Navigation and the temporal conduit had opened in the wrong location, or everything Miranda thought she knew about the planet Mars 200-hundred million years ago was seriously incorrect! (I did this image exclusively in Adobe CS2. Except for the stars and Saturn, all elements were taken from my photos. The water was created using Flood from Flaming Pear.) The idea in this case was not a “surreal” looking image—more like a postcard from Beyond Reality.
made the sunset scene in bryce….added the ducks and their reflections in photoshop….also some color adjustments in photoshop….i was working on this image from a few days…completed it today nov 3rd 2009
