Eagerly waiting for the release of Tim Burton’s new film “Alice in Wonderland” – I was also motivated to reinterpret Alice into an edgier, modern version. This Alice wears eyeliner, high heels and couture. Instead of tea, she will probably have a latte and there is always time to read Vogue. Inspired by the world of high fashion – from Gemma Ward to Alexander Mcqueen, elegant gothic darkness, and the richly textured fantasy world of Lewis Carroll. Original of this painting is available in my Etsy shop (Clear Jade Studio) *
Everybody knows a Cheshire Cat, but I guess he was not so famous when he was a kitten! I stumbled upon his early-days photo, he’s so cute, isn’t he? :-) As always, Adobe Photoshop, and Wacom Cintiq Magical Tablet. Alice in Wonderland is a classic example of some one looking for answers in all the wrong places. We all try to change our outer circumstances thinking it will bring us happiness and peace never realizing that the answers are within ourselves not outside of ourselves. Alice transforms her whole world in to a world of nonsense thinking this will bring her joy and happiness but soon enough she longs for the world she left behind. We all need to look inside ourselves for our own happiness and not seek it in external places or adventures, dreams can soon turn to nightmares and friends in to enemies unless we control our minds. Can any of us resist the temptation to follow the white rabbit down the hole? Probably not which is why this is still such a celebrated story, we all believe there is a world out there all of our own where everything is just as we’d like it to be….there is such a world but it resides inside our minds….. Alice and the Cheshire Cat. I had this somewhat sketched out a few weeks ago. The girl only. I did not know where I was going with it…but I did know I wanted something involving Alice in Wonderland. But when the group Shanime, inspired by anime came up the the challenge Alphabet Soup it gave me the idea for what this piece has become. Within the piece are the words: “We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” 9×12 / Inks. Glitter ink on her dress and shoes. Featured in: / Alice in Wonderland: May 2009
From the series Fairy tales
This picture was originally created as part of a treasure hunt game that I create every Easter. The original version was made into a 3-D paper automata image overlaying the images separately using card stock paper. For this version, I merged the separate files to create the one image. This drawing was sketched in pencil, then done in ink before being scanned into my computer. Once scanned, the coloring was done in MS Paint and Adobe Photoshop. The bricks in the background I did not draw but used a brick pattern. One day while riding about, I had this idea of imaging Alice from Alice in Wonderland being a sort of traveler through alternate universes via a port-hole built by a mad-scientist. I was picturing in my head, a steam-punk sortof worm-hole contraption in which the mad scientist who looked like the mad hatter first used a rabbit to test. The rabbit swirled around in the machine like clothes in a laundry machine forming the three hares symbol.
This is part of a poem from the front of one of my copies of Alice in Wonderland, I highly recommend getting hold of a copy so you can read the whole thing, it’s fantastic. Acrylic on canvas

‘If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn’t be, and what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?’ -Alice
Reinterpretation of the Queen in the style of haute couture. Usually, a painting doesn’t take me two weeks to complete—but this one ended up extraordinarily detailed… Original of this painting is available in my Etsy shop (Clear Jade Studio) * -
My take on Alice in Wonderland’s The Red Queen, She is very bitter and demanding and enjoys tea with short bread cookies, I was inspired by early Illustrations of Alice and Indie music. Original Made with ink on paper, Color done by Photoshop with vector shapes.
one side makes you larger, and the other makes you smaller.
We were taken by how many different artists have done their own take on Alice’s adventures in Wonderland (or Through the Looking Glass) ... so it was time to bring them together in one location to give them the attention they deserve! It’ll be a great study in how artists springboard off each other …
