Topic: Group News / Digital Airbrushing

Greetings Airbrush Art Group,

I hope 2010 is proving to be an inspired and productive year for you all.

Some of our digital artist members, who may not have used a “real” airbrush, are submitting artwork that simply won’t be accepted. It’s often really cool artwork, but it’s not primarily digital airbrushing.

The group rules allow for digital works as long as the Airbrush Tool & Airbrushing are the primary methods of creation. Tweaked photo or graphic collages and in particular tweaked vector images have no place in this group and will not be accepted.

Airbrush Art Group members who repeatedly submit works that do not fit the group’s criteria may be removed from the group without notice. So please, carefully consider whether your work belongs in this group before submitting it.

Best regards

Peter – aka Wizard, Airbrush Art Group Host

Thank you all for voicing support … it is appreciated!

The equation is ultimately a simple one. As long as artworks (and members) continue to be added to the Airbrush Art group, there is no reason for it to be closed down.

If and when RB ask again about a “lack of actvity”, I will no doubt politely inform them that we’re just having a short break, and expansion will resume again shortly.

;-)

Topic: Group News / RB wants to close the Airbrush Art group

Hi Airbrush Art group members,

Firstly, thanks to those who have added their voices.

RB have notified me that the Airbrush Art group will stay (“for now” their words). Which strongly suggests they intend to revisit this subject yet again.

It appears that RB’s criteria for keeping or removing groups is based on the usage statistics of the group membership. New members joining, works added to the group, forum usage and so on. Essentially a simple “use it or lose it” approach.

That the Airbrush Art group is one of the very few original, specific and non-duplicated groups on the Bubble seems to be of little or no significance at all.

Overall, the approach by RB is one that I happen to strongly disagree with. Of course, in the years that I’ve been here, that certainly would not be a first. However, I also learned a long time ago (as have others) that dissension by individuals, rarely has a good outcome. As a result, do not expect that I will waste my energy butting heads with the RB establishment every few months to keep this group open.

Unless more Airbrush Art group members are prepared to add their voices … this group will almost certainly get shut down. It’s not a question of if, but when.

Thanks for your time – Peter

Groups are the essence of an art community. You do not have to walk the thousands of RB pages to find what you like. Groups are collections with specified items. In a way, groups are like books in a library. They collect information, and make it easy for a visitor to find his personal interests.
Even groups that do not have a big collection, or are not popular have the right to exist.
Removing them is like burning books of the library. It is an act of terror, of fascism…

Closing down our groups will be considered as an act of terror and war will be declared to RB!!!!

Please Dont Shut down this group!!!!!!
It is so NOT a waste of time.
This group is needed.
Why do RB only want endless selection of photographs?
Airbrush art group is the only one of its kind and where else will i put all my airbrush work if not this group?
I know that it is the first place (and only for some) alot of my non artist friends (potential buyers) look on RB as its a type of art that is done and liked by many…
This group has a huge relevance to me and my art and i know i’m not the only one.
I’m actually been taking a break from art and RB for a while due to moving house etc but i heard of this and had to come back to say this isnt right to close this group down..
I dont know what else to say apart from if this group closes, I’ll lose alot of interest in this site and I know alot of non-artists who also will, to which the question is doesnt RB want buyers here to buy the art? not everyone thinks art is photographic work.

So, PLEASE please please Red Bubble do not close this group down, it will be a devastating blow to creativity and inspiration to all of us.
thanx for listening :)

Topic: Group News / RB wants to close the Airbrush Art group

Some months back RB sent me an email, essentially asking if I would like to close down the Airbrush Art group due to what RB considers to be “a lack of activity”.

I received a similar BubbleMail again today from RB admin. It seems that small, low volume, eclectic groups are not what RB is looking for.

So, I invite Airbrush Art group members to respond and express how they feel about the relevance of the Airbrush Art group.

For example: Do you believe that it is a waste of time and should therefore be closed?

Thanks for your time,

Peter – Airbrush Art host
