There are five races of the Ring-tailed Dragon Ctenophorus caudicinctus which is found across the northern parts of Australia from WA, through to NT and just in QLD. This individual is C.c.mensarum and was found in some great rocky outcrops in breakaway country in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. They are a small dragon, only growing up to 100mm (from snout to vent, about half their total length), where they bask on top of elevated rocks displaying for passing females. This guy is a well coloured male. The ‘shot’ was taken with a Canon EOS1000D with a 150-500 @ 500 handheld. A small “dragon” lizard from Central Australia. I am not sure of the species, but it is very similar to the Central Netted Dragon.

This very handsome reptile, striking a great pose for my camera, is a Hypsilurus spinipes (Southern Angle-headed Dragon), a native Australian lizard that lives in the rainforests along the eastern Australian coast. I find them to be a very interesting dragon due to the angled brows and expressive eyes. The photograph was made along the boardwalk from the car park to Cellito Beach, on the coastal side of the Myall Lakes system, between Newcastle and Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia. You can see a side on view of this handsome li’l devil here. Fuji S9600: RAW, Macro, f/4.1 @ 1/125sec, ISO80, Low powered flash, Hand held. / S7RAW & Photoshop CS. A common Bearded Dragon shows no fear as he tries to object to having his photo taken at Bumbaldry, Central NSW Australia.
I have been told these things are everywhere around the Chinese Gardens at Darling Harbour, Sydney, but this little guy was the first one I’d ever seen!

The Jacky Dragon Amphibolorus muricatus is a great little dragon that is particularly common in the forests and woodlands of the east coast of Australia. This absolute gem was sitting on a log in my front garden, before I stuck my camera in his face! Taken at Tathra on the NSW South Coast.
Another of the little “dragons”. mullewa WA canon 50D : sigma 50-500mm : f5.6 : 1/1000 : ISO100 : FL500mm
