ok, i will start, i guess Exposure: Looks ok. Did you up the contrast? The waves look a little blown out but the rest of the photo looks a bit dark. It is hard to tell what time of day it is. I don’t think the blown out waves is a big issue except that the large one on the bottom left is drawing more attention than the building. Composition: I like the horizontal placement of the building and the distance it is viewed from. However, the centrally composed horizon is making the image quite bottom heavy and because there is not much going on in the sky, it is exacerbated. It is too bad that the land mass was cut off on the right. It would have been a nice way to draw the viewer’s eye up to the building but as it is now, it is stunted by the cropping. If possible from the original photo, maybe include that part of the land mass and flip the photo horizonatlly so the land mass stretches from the left to the right. Or, the bottom portion of the photo could be cropped out (from the top of that large wave, down). If it could be re-shot I would suggest a landscape orientation to emphasize the horizontal lines of the land, waves, and, of course, horizon. Feeling: I get the sense of a far away, lone structure. The darkness in the sky makes me want to think it is night but the light on the building and waves confuses me so I am having trouble putting more of a story/emotion to the image. |

ok, my 2 cents worth. Is that image uncropped? And I’ll assume you can’t re-shoot it. I agree with Dana and the blown out wave, and that’s actually where I’d crop it. I must also be going through a B&W phase, as I’d also convert it to B&W. |

Damn Theodore, this is sooo close. The wave… mmmm… very distracting. When assessing your photograph, squint your eyes and take note of what you can see. When you do this you will see that wave and not much else. This means that it will be the most prominent element of your image. I bet that is not what you intended. I am guessing your subject is that awesome building. Crop out most of the bottom of the image. Try to place the building the same distance from the bottom of the frame as it is from the LHS of the image. The building is out there all on its own, add lots of the landscape to really communicate that sense of isolation. Good colour saturations. I think you should be closer to the building, there is not a lot of detail there. A longer lens would help. And I think that a “landscape format” may suit this image better, and really add to the sense of isolation. Because there is nothing really happening in the sky (no great cloudage etc) the vertical (portrait) format really doesn’t add anything to the image. Look at this photograph by LLOYDSJOURNEY. See how he has zoomed in much closer so now the viewer gets to see the detail in his subject? Also, by including a lot of the landscape he has created a feeling of isolation. The awesome cloudage finishes off this photograph by creating lots of drama and also creating lines and depth that draws the viewer’s eyes through the image. Squint your eyes at this image. What do you see? You see three important elements: You definitely want to be drawn to those elements.
I would like to see the original full-frame version of your image. |

I, too would like to see the full-frame version of your image. I have to agree with the above comments that the wave at the bottom needs to be cropped out. My eye keeps on being drawn downward when the focus should be on the structure (i assume). The second thing I noticed about this photograph is that although the building is off center to the left, my eye noticed right away that it’s in the center top-to-bottom. Cropping out the wave at the bottom would fix the comp though, and make it a little more pleasing to the eye. Great location though, hope to see more from here! |

the building looks a little wonkie to me as well but for me that helps the charm. your position of the buildings is good but i also agree or wonder if u were a little heavy on the contrast and cutting the curve on the land mass is a bit disjointed on the eye. i also have to agree with the wave it is too big and strong with the white in it it overwhelms the house |

I think it need to be cropped a bit, take down some of the sky or the sea.. and pull the building in a bit. It could be a really nice lighthouse picture, it’s just the composition that needs a bit of help. |
