This is the beach at a squatters town, Broke Inlet, at the end of a 4-wheel drive track, on the south coast of Western Australia, near Walpole. It is a fabulous place to explore, especially as – if they pull down the shacks – there may only be this view and a few pieces of driftwood left. Taken with Leica MP, 24mm lens, Velvia 100 film. Cropped in photoshop and levels tweaked. FEATURED IN A PHOTOGRAPHER’S CRAFT!

Wind, rain, an occasional splash of light. That’s my prescription for a perfect day. In my element again at last. Nikon D200, Nikkor 70-300mm, 300mm, F/6.3, 1/160, -0.3 exposure compensation, ISO 200, manual exposure mode, monopod
This is an image I would have LOVED to try to capture in 1 photograph… I thought for ages about how to create the steam effect in real life… a piece of ‘dry ice’ in the hand under the fish? Where on earth do you get dry ice from? And – how to insulate the hand from it so it doesn’t get totally frozen / burnt? A lit cigarette? Incense? Anyway, I was finally forced to admit it was all a bit too hard… (Though – to be honest – the thought of actually holding a stinking rotten fish like this in my bare hands – reasonably close under my nose – also kind of put me off a little…) So all the images used here are, as always, taken with my Sony Alpha 350, by me.

Much as I would rather be shooting a dramatic stormy Saturday ocean scene as GerryMac did today, once again I tucked up into a deck chair, tripod-mounted camera at the ready. Not well enough yet to hike today, but I can listen to the wind rustle the aspen leaves. Taller spruce trees shadow the aspen trees and this dead branch, creating a dark background for this pine siskin (finch). This looks more like a female with less yellow-gold on the tail feathers. Featured in Alaska ~ Beyond Your Dreams – an honor Nikon D200, Sigma 150-500mm, 500mm, f/6.3, 1/400sec, -0.3ev., ISO 200, manual exposure. Converted from 12-bit RAW to jpeg using Capture NX2.1. Manfrotto tripod. Slightly cropped. Nota bene: Now that it’s raining, we have Steller’s Jay, magpies, smaller birds, and squirrels posed everywhere, of course.
