5DII Group: Viorica, we know you use the Canon 5DII and the 100 mm macro. What other equipment do you use?
Ebyarts: I don’t use any fancy lights, just a reading lamp. I take all my pictures as RAW images. I find that it gives me the opportunity to modify files better. For layering and post-processing, I use Photoshop CS3.

5DII Group: Your lighting is soft, almost three-dimensional and always very delicate. How do you achieve it?
Ebyarts: I use tissue paper over the light bulb…no secrets.

5DII Group: Do you plan your works in advance? How do you decide on your compositions?
Ebyarts: A walk in the garden and I got my inspiration. Sometimes you have something in your mind how you imagine your finished work but the camera will tell you if it is or not. Seeing through the lens is different from seeing with your naked eyes…really, it is much better and accurate.

5DII Group: There is a lovely variety of flowers and compositions in your work. Do you have a favourite flower?
Ebyarts: I love all my flowers they are all special but Sunflowers have a special place in my heart.

5DII Group: Where does your love of nature come from?
Ebyarts: Curiosity! All the time I was interested in observing the world everything around me. Growing flowers gives me the opportunity to be with them and see them every day. For me each flower is a portrait. They are like people; they give and take. They have a life like us and they die like us…

5DII Group: What advice would you give to photographers starting out in nature and flower photography?
Ebyarts: Be patient and just be YOU.

5DII Group: You have been exhibited in Europe. Are you planning any in the future?
Ebyarts: Yes, I am working on it.

5DII Group: You quoted da Vinci, Rembrandt and Van Gogh among your influences. Which photographers influence you?
Ebyarts: I am trying to find my way in photography, and it is so much to learn. I love all photographers, they are so special.

5DII Group: You chose “suns” as your favourite image, which graces the top of this “interview”. Why?

Ebyarts: I love sunflowers for their happy faces. They seem to be so happy all the time and so full of positive energy. They have perfect symbiosis. Bees, wasps, birds and insects in general love them. They have the beautiful memories of all my summer and autumn days spent together in the garden. I wanted to share with everybody. A flower is a gift for the soul. “Only from the heart can you touch the sky.” – Rumi.
