“Folk Art Melon” is painted in Acrylic on Canvas…the cracking is deliberate and adds to the appearance of antiquity in early American Folk Art 467 Views Hot day, / cool pink fleshy fruit, / sipping off the rind thats dripping…can’t get enough, / Spitting out some seeds, love to see them fly, / aim at my friends like a gun fighter, / once again a bullseye… / Laughing and cutting up, chewing on that rind, / another piece to ease the heat… / I’m loving summer time… / Rays that shine memories make me wish it would never end, / Watermelon dreams shared with my good friends ...Jeffrey Scott Pelsang
“The Grove” continues the story of four friends who set out for a Christmas weekend in the country…in the first chapter, seen HERE the friends’ day starts out joyfully, but soon deteriorates along with the weather, and they quickly become lost…in the second chapter seen HERE they decide to walk to their destination, but without any idea how to get there... Watercolour on Saunders Not Paper Look” I cried, but my cry fell on deaf ears…Dahlia, who had still been sobbing that we should stay with the car, terrified that she would fall, stumbled and actually fell, and before we knew it slid rapidly into one of the ditches that hidden by snow, lined the roadway…how to get her out without their falling on the treacherous ice, elicited a heated argument between Tom and Mark, Dahlia screaming and thrashing about all the while…finally by Tom yelling that “the more she moved the deeper she sank”, Dahlia got the message and the two men by lying prone on the icy lane, managed to drag her out dripping wet, but… without the boots…it was quickly apparent we would never get them back…no one could possibly reach down to try and find them…we dried her off as best we could, wrapped her in one of the blankets we had luckily brought with us and the two men elected to carry her in turn on their backs…that meant our progress was slower than ever…worse yet, the only torch we had was now flickering badly…to save the battery I turned it off, hoping that we would be guided by the light of the waning moon…... / Suddenly I remembered what I had seen…I turned back excitedly…”Look there”...I pointed to a spot ahead of us…I had seen what looked like a small sheltered grove, but what had really astonished me was the light…blazing brilliant light pouring down through the trees as if from the skies…”Look where? asked Tom…”There” I replied…then stopped silent…my hand dropped to my side…the light had gone…there was nothing there….only impenetrable darkness stared back at us... / Lost / A Weekend in the Country
Serendipity is defined as “An unsought, unintended, or unexpected discovery or occurrence, made by accident and sagacity”...I like the last word as it makes me feel very wise…however it came about, accident or sagacity, this painting is defenitely the result of serendipitous circumstances…this morning I started new painting, a portrait with two faces in acrylic… I put the painting away to be completed later and started to clean up… / I took a sponge roller to the palette paper I use for painting, flattening the blobs of paint before I tore the sheet off to throw it away…as I rolled the blobs merged together, creating new colours…I remember thinking how pretty it looked and went on cleaning up… / I knocked off some paint from a brush on to the paper, then I took the painting knife I had used to put paint on the palette, and started to clean it by running it along the crinkles in the paper….I tore it off the pad, my hand poised above the trash can, when for some reason I stopped and stood there gazing at it…at that moment I realized that I had without being consciously aware of it, created a new abstract landscape….I don’t believe it was an accident…my movements were purposeful though unconscious….I call it “Serendipity” the portraits are still waiting to be finished..maybe tomorrow Acrylics on Palette Paper
Another new addition to my Cherry series… the abstract background is meant to give the feeling of outdoors in summer, without being too literal…I am planning on doing 365 cherry paintings …some will be more realistically portrayed than others, but all will be different…I hope that you are enjoying them so far... Watercolour on Arches Hot Pressed Paper In the cherry plucked at night, / With the dew of summer swelling, / There’s a juice of pure delight, / Cool, dark, sweet, divinely smelling. / Merry, merry, / Take a cherry; / Mine are sounder, / Mine are rounder, / Mine are sweeter / For the eater / In the moonlight. When I create illustrations of pets I study their expressions, this scene is a fact to how dogs feel when their owners are not around and basically wait for them to come home, they continue to wait until they hear that door close. My inspiration behind this work is the love for dogs, I have one like this one, lol!! Poser 7/Painter X/CS3 J.Mclean© 2010 Junior’s Digital Designs
