Acrylic on 28”x30” canvas Portrait of my Great Grandmother Featured in ‘Southern United States Artists’ / Featured in ‘Da Da Land’ Painted in the style of Van Gogh after doing a study of him My sister, Mary Carolyn, the smart one in the family, told me our great grandmother had 10 children and was a hard working, no nonsense woman of few words who said what she meant and meant what she said, but was also kind and fair. This was painted from an old black and white photo. It looked as though she had a tweed jacket on so I thought Van Gogh’s Self Portrait would suit her jacket well.
the essence of pathos and the embodiement of optimisim….. I was driving by and stopped at the lights approaching King street Newtown and I saw this little urban vingette and I just couldn’t resist… quick as a flash I had the old camera out of my handbag and got one frame off before the lights changed or the would be athlete saw me… maybe this is a bit cruel but I find it quite touching to be honest

My technical skills have increased a fair bit since I created the first image “Just a Hand” that I posted here on RB some time ago. I thought it might be interesting to see what I could make of the concept now, with the better equipment and skills that I (hopefully) have. The actual image of the hand here is a new shot, using a much better lens and more selective lighting. The textures though are the same ones I used before, though I have blended them differently to attempt to make use of more compositional techniques that I was not aware of when I made the original. There is a link to the original below – I would be most interested in anyone’s opinions re the relative value and interest of each version…

It is time for Santa to get busy…...... / acrylic on fabric / / / / / Of all the recordings I like this the best….............. / So get Ready…............Sing along…....... / Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, / Right down Santa Claus Lane. Vixen, Blitzen, all his reindeer / Pulling on the reins. / Bells are ringing, children singing, / All is merry and bright. / Hang your stockings and say a prayer, / ‘Cause Santa Claus comes tonight. Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, / Riding down Santa Claus Lane. He’s got a bag that’s filled with toys / For boys and girls again. / Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle, / What a beautiful sight. / Jump in bed and cover up your head, / Because Santa Claus comes tonight. Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, / Riding down Santa Claus Lane. He doesn’t care if you’re a rich or poor boy, / He loves you just the same. / Santa knows that we’re God’s children, / That makes everything right. / Fill your hears with Christmas cheer, / ‘Cause Santa Claus comes tonight. Well, here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, / Riding down Santa Claus Lane. He’ll come around when the chimes ring out / It’s Christmas morn again. / Peace on Earth will come to all / If we just follow the light / Let’s give thanks to the Lord above, / ‘Cause Santa Claus comes tonight. ‘Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.
