The Heart Tree
I once happened upon a heart tree
And had to pick the perfect
bloom for me

I knew as soon as I saw
that heart, oh yes it is he
It called out I am yours, if you will choose it to be

So, I danced my way to it
and reached up to pluck
it from the tree
No doubt, no worry
I knew that heart was meant for me

I was right because that heart
was yours, you see
And now I am blessed with your love and oh how I love thee

A Poem For My Body

Stretch marks on my breasts
From my son who suckled there
Brown spots on my body
From the sun on skin too fair

Cellulite on hips
From the pleasures on my plate
Dark circles under eyes
Not from staying up too late

Sagging pubic mound
That once stood pert and proud
Lines around my lips
That I curse, (cause I’m allowed)

A waist no longer tiny
A bum no longer small
A neck no longer taut
But I don’t resent it all

My body gave me Danial
Gave me pleasure for no fee
It asked of me no questions
And was always there for me

It healed me when I crumbled
It saw love through open eyes
It hugged the one’s I care for
Gave me peace from deep inside

So I’d like to tell you something
And I’d like to make it clear
If not for you dear, Linda
I would simply not be here

Music Happens

Adrift of audience, his aged frame supported askew his old grand, his friend,
he recalled the fading moments from recent past as a soliloquy.
The first lilting note.
The first flick of ink.
Alive in his careworn hand he grasped his life’s work as an exclamation, a baton,
and relived the receding moments from ulterior past as a symphony.
The journey of composition.
The harmony of discovery.
Aware within at last he reflected a lopsided smile at the ghost of a great composer
whilst embracing the richest moments from now as a requiem.
The final curtain.
The last haunting flute.
At peace, his mind upon the warm piano top, darkness claimed him sight and soul,
as his life’s work fell from finger tips to the world as a lullaby.
