BO ON HIS VW TRIKE by SMOKEYDOGSOCKS
BACK IN THE 1980’S, I HAD A HONDA GOLWING INTERSTATE GL1100, WITH THE FAIRING AND WINDSHIELD, REMOVEABLE SADDLEBAGS THAT WERE MORE LIKE SMALL SUIT CASES, AND A TRUNK THAT ASLO HAD A PAD ON THE BOTTOM OF IT, SO THE PASSENGER COULD HAVE SOMETHING COMFORTABLE TO LEAN AGAINST. I EVEN HAD ONE FRIEND OF MINE, GO TO SLEEP BEHIND ME. SHE TOLD ME THAT WAS THE MOST COMFORTABLE SHE’D EVER BEEN ON A MOTORCYCLE. I SURE DO MISS MY GOLDWING AND TRAILER. ANYWAY, ONE OF THE PEOPLE THAT I USED TO RIDE WITH, WAS MY FRIEND BO. HE WAS A HARD CORE HARLEY DAVIDSON RIDER, THAT ALSO DID SOME TATTOOING FOR ME AND HE HAD THIS VW TRIKE THAT HE LIKED TO RIDE EVERY NOW AND THEN. SO, THIS SHOT OF “BO ON HIS VW TRIKE”, IS A REMEMBORANCE OF A HELL OF A GUY AND A GOOD FRIEND, THAT I DON’T MIND THINKING OF WHEN I LOOK BACK IN MY MEMORIES. I SURE AM GLAD I BECAME HOOKED ON PHOTOGRAPHY IN 1974, WHEN I WAS IN BASIC TRAINING FOR THE AIR FORCE. IF I HADN’T TAKEN ALL THE PHOTOS OF ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS OVER THE YEARS, I WOULDN’T HAVE THE VISUAL MEMORIES I HAVE. MENTAL MEMORIES ARE OK, BUT TO BE ABLE TO HOLD AN IMAGE IN YOUR HAND AND SAY, I REMEMBER THE DAY THAT HAPPENED, I HAD FUN AND IT WAS A NICE RIDE WITH A GOOD FRIEND. BACK WHEN I TOOK THIS SHOT, I WAS USING A CANON AE1 WITH A 50MM LENS AND KODAK 200ASA FILM WITH A UV FILTER ON THE LENS. THE DAY WE WENT FOR THIS RIDE, WE WENT UP HIGHWAY 1 ALONG THE CALIFORNIA COAST LINE, I THINK UP TO JENNER. I DON’T REMEMBER IF WE WENT ANY FARTHER NORTH THAN THAT. BO DID A COUPLE OF TATTOOS FOR ME IN 1983, UNFORTUNATELY, HE DIED IN 2000. RIP BO.
