A bit of a play on perspective here, with an HDR twist. These two buildings seem to tower over the CN tower in toronto, but it’s simply the perspective. another assignment for school.

This is the fishing vessel, Ocean Cloud. This boat is fishing for the company I work for, Walcan Seafood Ltd. (should check out their website, www.walcanseafood.com. This boat is fishing in the middle of Port Hardy Bay, the most northern town on Vancouver Island, BC Canada. It’s seining for pilchards, the pilchard is small like a sardine. / We are offloading this boat later on today. It will be very a interesting offload, we have never offloaded pilchards before. / Always a first for everything ! :) / Hope you like it! / Taken with my DMC FZ-50, edited with ACDSee Imagery Program.

FEATURED IN THE CANADA GROUP / I was intrigued to locate and photograph this old home, which now sits empty, after hearing stories about one of this region’s most famous citizens. Harry Lee, a locomotive engineer, apparently retired from the CP railway in his early sixties to take care of his ailing father struggling with dimentia, who lived with him. There are many stories of his father’s “unusual behaviour” which kept Harry very busy indeed. Harry collected a pension from the Canadian Pacific Railway until his death at 102 years of age….a highly unusual accomplishment. The following historical information was obtained from “Vanishing BC”: / http://www.michaelkluckner.com/bciw.html “Reputedly the oldest building in North Bend, British Columbia the house occupied by Harry Lee the legendary locomotive engineer, until his death at age 102 (in 2004) stands on 1st Street on the opposite side of the Canadian Pacific Railway mainline from the site of the CPR hotel. / “It is a classic little 1-1/2 storey house that may have been a CPR design-all the land on the river side of the tracks was and is owned by the CPR and leased to the occupants, who own their buildings. The original occupant is unknown. / Harry Lee, who lived in the house for as long as anyone can remember, is the son of pioneers at Keefers-upstream on the same side of the river, where there are still areas called Upper Lee and Lower Lee, although all the historic buildings are apparently demolished. Lee’s father, an Englishman, was a farmer who supplied milk to the railway. The house retains Lee’s personality—for example, the metal cooler (vented to the outside like a meat safe) is plastered with old Irish Sweepstakes tickets.” layers and textural effects were applied in CS4 /

The Ainsworth Dyer Bridge was named in memory of a corporal who was one of four Canadian soldiers killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan on April 17, 2002. Corporal Ainsworth Dyer (July 29, 1977 – April 17, 2002) was one of 4 Canadian soldiers killed by US Forces in a friendly fire incident near Kandahar in Afghanistan (see Tarnak Farm incident). Dyer was born in Montreal in 1977 and grew up in Toronto. He joined the Canadian Army in October 1997. He served with Canadian peacekeeping forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2000. He was killed when an American laser-guided bomb was dropped on members of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry taking part in a live-fire training exercise.

As I was watching these canoeists,I was thinking..they’re floating on one of the world’s most beautiful lakes, fed by glaciers high in the Rocky Mountains.Behind them march thousands upon tens of thousands of trees, climbing up the slopes of towering peaks which once were the bed of a shallow sea, and were thrust upward with power we can’t begin to imagine, to form peaks thousands of feet above the level of the present oceans. And this is hundreds of miles from the closest ocean. And above it all,the ever-changing sky,now blue and serene, but in another moment, dark and storm-tossed. I felt how tiny we all are compared to what surrounds us every day. It is so seldom we stop to think how much we have to be thankful for and appreciate the beauty that we have been given. / Taken at Lake Maligne, Jasper National Park, Alberta,Canada. / Sept. 4, 2009. / Sony DSCF828 camera.
It doesn’t really look like an island from this angle, but that grove of trees on the rocky mound is the end of Spirit Island as seen from the water of Lake Maligne, in Jasper National Park, Alberta,Canada. It’s not a view that we’d seen anywhere in other photos, which was what we were trying to do: capture some views that were different. / It looked like the surrounding ranges of the Rocky Mountains were holding the island in a protective embrace, protecting it from the stormy weather up there on the high altitudes. Located near White Pass Summit, British Columbia, Canada on the Klondike Highway. The Tormented Valley contains large areas having an almost “lunar” appearance, making this one of the most unique eco-systems in North America. Here you will explore a forest-tundra ecotone consisting of the blending of a stunted forest of three hundred year old trees, known as “krummholz”, and alpine tundra. / As I took photos in this area, I stared at the appearance of the tiny trees and rock surface like it was from outer space. ! Location: Taken just before dusk at Sunset Beach just south of Grand Beach on Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada. The island in the distance is called Bird Island…Looking due north, to the left where the water meets the sky, is approximately 416 km (258 mi) to the distant shore. Interesting Facts Lake Winnipeg is a very large (24,514 square kilometers (9,465 sq mi)) lake in central North America, in the province of Manitoba, Canada, about 55 kilometres (34 mi) north of the city of Winnipeg. It is the largest lake within the borders of southern Canada, and it is part of the most undeveloped and pristine large watershed of southern Canada. It is the sixth-largest freshwater lake in Canada, but it is relatively shallow (mean depth of 12 m (39 ft), excluding a narrow 36 m (118 ft) deep channel between the northern and southern basins. It is the eleventh-largest freshwater lake on Earth. The east side of the lake has pristine boreal forests and rivers that are being promoted as a potential United Nations World Heritage Park. The lake is elongated in shape and looking to the left here, is 416 km (258 mi) from north to south, with remote sandy beaches, large limestone cliffs, and many bat caves in some areas. Manitoba Hydro uses the lake as one of the largest reservoirs in the world. There are many islands in the lake and most are undeveloped and pristine Camera Details: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, 55mm Lens, Aperture exp 13.0, Shutter speed 1/400, ISO 200
