The Southwest has such unique and beautiful plant life. The yucca is one of my favorites and the yucca bloom is New Mexico’s state flower. They have been blooming profusely for the past few weeks. This is an original acrylic painting on canvas and is part of my series of “Seasons” paintings.
I’m not certain of the name of this succulent. It’s very hard to find any print or information on it. / I think it is from the Heurnia family. / It would be great if anyone could identify it for me please. I finally have a name for this succulent, it’s Orbea variegata or Starfish Cactus, unless anyone can correct me
Saw this Prickly Pear leaf laying on the ground just as seen here, of course I photoshopped the colorization on B&W to add to it’s natural shape and overall theme.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: A cactus (plural: cacti or cactuses) is any member of the plant family Cactaceae, native to the Americas. They are often used as ornamental plants, but some are also crop plants. Cacti are grown for protection of property from wild animals, as well as many other uses. Cacti are part of the plant order Caryophyllales, which also includes members like beets, gypsophila, spinach, amaranth, tumbleweeds, carnations, rhubarb, buckwheat, plumbago, bougainvillea, chickweed and knotgrass. Cacti are distinctive and unusual plants, which are adapted to extremely arid and hot environments, showing a wide range of anatomical and physiological features which conserve water. Their stems have adapted to become photosynthetic and succulent, while the leaves have become the spines for which cacti are well known.
